Abstract
A support for a container 21, such as a golf bag 21, comprises a leg 11 having a foot 12, a hook 17 and an intermediate member 13. An assembly of a plurality of legs 11 includes a strap 22 engaging the hooks 17 and springs 14 which bias the legs together below the level of the members 13. In use, the bag 21 rests on the intermediate members 13 with the strap 22 encircling a lower portion of the bag. <IMAGE>
Description
CONTAINER SUPPORT
This invention is concerned with a support for the under-side of a container, which support can be attached to the container so that when the container is lifted, the support does not fall off the container.
It is desired that the support can be readily detached from the container and can be adapted to containers of different sizes.
According to one aspect of the invention there is provided a support for a container comprising a vertical member having a foot at one end for engagement with the ground, means at the upper end of the vertical member to suspend the support from a horizontal band and an intermediate horizontal member affixed to the vertical member for engaging the under-side of the container.
A plurality of such supports may be provided, for supporting a single container around its periphery, adjacent supports being connected together by means of springs. For this purpose, the vertical members may be formed with apertures which the springs engage.
An example of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing which is a perspective view of the base of a golf bag mounted on a support according to an embodiment of the invention.
The support comprises four identical legs 11. Each leg has a large foot 12 of rubber or plastics material for engagement of the ground without exerting excessive pressure thereon. A horizontal spur 13 extends inwards from the mid-section of each leg 11 to support the under-side of the golf bag. Between the spur 13 and the foot 12, springs 14 extend between adjacent legs with looped ends 15 passing through apertures in the leg, two apertures 16 being provided side-by-side in each leg. An inwardly turned hook 17 is formed at the upper end of the leg 11.
When the golf bag 21 is desired to be provided with the support according to the invention, the bag 21 is laid on its side and a strap 22 is placed loosely around the lower portion of the bag as shown in the figure. The four legs 11 are hooked over the strap with their spurs 13 extending radially inwardly below the base of the bag. The strap 22 is then fastened, the position of the legs 11 is adjusted and the strap 2S is tightened. Finally the springs 14 are secured between the holes 16 of adjacent legs 11.
The feedSdistribute the weight of the bag over their reasonably large areas, so that its weight does not form depressions in the ground. The set of legs can be used on bags whose diameter ranges between the length of a single spur 13 to a high multiple of that length, provided that the weight of the bag and its contents can be supported by the spurs 13. As the size of the bag with which the support is used is increased, it may be necessary to substitute longer springs 14. The support would only be useful with a container whose lower portion is of such material and shape that the strap will hold the upper portion of the legs onto the lower portion of the bag when it is lifted.
Claims (9)
