Abstract

The latches of needles (5) in the upper cylinder of a double-cylinder circular knitting machine are opened by the tips of empty lower guiding sliders (3) and in the places where upper guiding sliders (4) with the needles (5) are lowered into clearing position there are retracting cams (11, 18) to retract empty lower guiding sliders (3) to a level where their tips are in the tricks of the lower needle cylinder (1), i.e. below the upper level (F) of the trick walls. Engagement between the sliders and the latches therefore takes place within the tricks and this avoids the elements missing one another. <IMAGE>

Description

CAM SYSTEM OF A DOUBLE-CYLINDER CIRCULAR KNITTING MACHINE: DESCRIPTION: The invention relates to a cam system of a double-cylinder circular knitting machine to control latch needles being assigned to the lower or upper guiding sliders located in the lower or upper needle cylinder.
Double-cylinder circular knitting machines for the production of socks goods are known, where the cooperation of the needles in one needle cylinder with the guiding sliders in opposite tricks of the second needle cylinder is solved only in case of transfer of the needles between the needle cylinders and holding the needle latches.
Double-cylinder knitting machines are further known, where cooperation of mentioned knitting elements is extended also on opening and closing the latches of upper needles. The solution in which the track of empty lower guiding sliders is coincident with the track of the guiding sliders carrying the needles is known from the British Patent No. 404 064. A solution is known from US Patent No. 4 233 823 where for opening the upper needles by empty lower guiding sliders a known elevated track of the lower guiding sliders with the needles set out of operation when knitting the heel, the so called instep track is used.
Said track is a considerable advantage when holding the latches of upper needles. To the contrary opening of the latches is difficult. Mutual meeting Of the needle head with the tip of the opposite guiding slider takes place off the trick of any of the needle cylinders. Because the position of both ends of the needle and of the guiding slider is not perfectly ensured, it is possible that they miss each other and a serious defect to the machine can take place.
The task of the invention is to eliminate the above mentioned disadvantage.
According to the invention there is provided a cam system of a double-cylinder circular knitting machine to control latch needles assigned to upper or lower guiding sliders located in lower and upper needle cylinders, comprising cams limiting the track of lower guiding sliders without the needles at the level corresponding principally to the level of opening the needle latches in upper needle cylinder by the tips of the lower guiding sliders, while the machine is provided with means to move lower guiding sliders without the needles in and out from said track, wherein in -- said track of lower guiding sliders without the needles under the track of lowering upper guiding sliders with the needles into the clearing position there are arranged cams to retract lower guiding sliders without the needles onto the level when their tips are in the tricks of the lower needle cylinder.
The advantage of the invention is the fact, that opening of the latches of the upper needles takes place in the tricks of the lower needle cylinder, missing of said elements is not possible, because their positions are mutually stabilized.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing, a known double-cylinder circular knitting machine for the production of socks goods is provided with known lower and upper needle cylinder 1 and 2 in the tricks of which there are lower guiding sliders 3 and upper guiding sliders 4 which are designed to hold needles 5 either in the lower needle cylinder 1 or in the upper needle cylinder 2. In the lower needle cylinder 1 there are moreover located known, not shown jacks, the selection of which is performed by a patterning mechanism.
The cam system is arranged in two knitting feeds. The following cams are arranged in the lower cylinder 1 to control lower guiding sliders 3. In the first knitting feed there are left and right stitch cams 6, 7, 8 and 9 to control the upper and lower butts 310 and 320 of the lower guiding sliders 3 and ce:ral cam 1 to control lower butts 320. Retracting cam 11 and raising cam 12 are arranged after said cams in path A of lower butts 320 of lower guiding sliders 3 without the needles 5, which leads above the knitting feeds Retracting cam 11 is radially movable. Further a triangular raising cam 13 is arranged under said cams 11 and 12 between the knitting feeds.
In the second knitting feed there are analogically arranged left and right stitch cams 14, 15, 16 and 17 and central cam 19 and after them in path A there is a retracting cam 18 and raising cam 19. Retracting cam 18 is radially movable. A raising cam 20 is arranged under said cams 18 and 19.
Further the track A contains before the first knitting feed a retracting cam 21 and raising cam 22 to transfer needles 5 and a raising cam 23 in the track of upper butts 310 for knitting the heel, while all are radially movable.
Stitch cams 24 and 25 and lowering cams 26 and 27 are arranged in the first knitting feed in the upper needle cylinder 2 to control the upper guiding sliders 4. In the second knitting feed there are stitch cams 28 and 29 and lowering cams 30 and 31. Said cams 24 up to 31 and further known, not designated cams control upper guiding sliders 4 so that they move along the track B. Lowering cams 26, 27, 30 and 31 are designed to lower the needles into the clearing position, while they are arranged above the retracting cams 11, 18 and raising cams 12 and 19.
The operation of the above described system is as follows. Lower guiding sliders 3, in which needles 5 are hooked, move in both knitting feeds along the track C, which is the track of lower butts 320, while rib stitches are formed on them. Purl stitches are formed on upperneedles 5 hooked in upper guiding sliders 4. Empty lower guiding sliders 3 move along the track A and they are selected into said track in two ways. When knitting rib patterns, the lower guiding sliders 3 with needles 5 are raised by the track D via the jacks onto the raising cam 22. Raising cam 22 raises them and needles 5 are transferred in the upper needle cylinder 2. Empty lower guiding sliders 3 are then retracted by retracting cam 22' into said track A along which they move within the time of knitting the rib pattern. When knitting links-links patterns, said selection is performed after each revolution of the needle cylinder, because the retracting cam 21 is moved into the path A and retracts the empty lower guiding sliders 3 into the track C.
The tips of empty lower guiding sliders 3 move along the track E, which for the description of the invention is illustrated only for the first knitting feed, because the track of the tips of lower guiding sliders 3 in the second knitting feed is the same. Thus track E leads mostly above the line F, which is the upper edge of the ribs of the tricks in the lower needle cylinder 1. Heads of needles 5 in the upper needle cylinder 2 move along the track G. After retraction of the upper needles 5 they begin to move into the clearing position due to the action of lowering cams 26 and 27, as evident from the course of tracks B and G. In the place under the retracting cam 26 also the retracting cam 11 begins to retract empty guiding sliders 3 so that their tips cannot get in contact with the latches of upper needles 5 that is above the line F, or upper edge of the lower needle cylinder 1. Said contact takes place only in point X, that is at the level, when the tips of empty lower guiding sliders 3 are under the line F and also the heads of opposite upper needles 5, that is in the place, when the tracks G and E intersect. Said point X is behind the working edge of the retracting cam 11 and it is at the beginning of the horizontal edge of the lowering cam 27, as evident from the drawn vertical dash-and-dotted line H. During further course the empty lower sliders 3 are raised by raising cam 12 onto the original level and they open the latches of upper needles 5, which remain from the point X at the same height level. Only after reaching the original level of empty lower guiding sliders 3 upper needles 5 begin to be lowered by the lowering edge of the lowering cam 27 to the clearing position, while empty lower guiding sliders 3 hold the latches of upper needles 5 open. The function of empty lower guiding sliders in the second knitting feed is the same.
The advantage of the solution except for that opening of the latches takes place in the tricks of the lower needle cylinder is that during opening only the empty guiding slider moves and when it stops then only the needle moves and the guiding slider is stopped. This excludes counter-directional movement of both elements and friction is decreased.
