Abstract
The board 3, 4 is made from moulded or vacuum formed plastics, it is in two halves and is formed with recesses 7, 8 for holding stacks of cards 5, 6 or other playing pieces. The recesses may have their bottoms shaped in such a way as to give easy retrievability of the cards and playing pieces. The halves can be secured by a clip 14. Figure 1 shows a presentation box 1, 2 with playing board halves 3, 4, a foam lining 9 attached to the lid of the box 1, 2 and extra trays 10, 11 for the storage of playing items situated between the two halves. <IMAGE>
Description
DOMESTIC BOARD GAME
This invention relates to the playing board of a domestic board game of the type using cards, markers and dice.
The usual practice with such games is to have a folding board with marked out areas upon which the cards are stacked during play. At the end of a game it is usual for the cards, playing items and board to be stored using rubber bands and/or bags to hold the pieces together within a presentation box.
According to the present invention, there is provided a playing board comprising two halves preferably made from moulded or vacuum formed plastics and having formed recesses for the purpose of holding the stacks of cards. The bottom of each recess is specially shaped in such a way so as to allow the cards to be tilted by finger pressure in order to select a desired card.
Extra moulded trays are provided for storage of the playing pieces.
During play the two halves of the playing board are laid side by side and held together using a clip provided; whilst in storage the two halves are stacked one on top of the other in the presentation box provided, so that the cards, which can be left in their recesses, will be retained, those in the lower half-board by the upper half board and those in the upper half board by the use of a foam-plastics lining attached to the underside of the presentation box lid. The two half boards are sufficiently similar to each other in shape to allow for such stacking and to allow the extra storage trays to be fitted in spaces between the half boards and the presentation box.
The advantages of such a design are as follows: Enhanced portability of the box without the cards and playing items being disturbed in their recesses; the ease with which cards can be selected during play; any number of mouldings may be stacked compactly owing to their interlocking design.
Continued.
There now follows a specific description of the invention in practical form with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Fig.l. is a sectional side view of the stacked halves of the playing board within a presentation box, whilst Fig.2. is a perspective drawing of the board in its playing position.
With reference to Fig.l. a presentation box (1 & 2) contains two halves of the playing board (3,4) with cards (5,6) in place within their specially shaped recesses (7,8) The foam lining (9) is shown attached to the lid of the presentation box (1). The extra trays (10, 11) for the storage of other playing items are shown situated between the half boards.
Figure 2 shows the two half boards (3,4) laid side by side in playing position. The shape of the bottom surface of one of the recesses is shown at (12). A recess is shown at (13) to receive the clip (14).
Claims (7)
1. A playing surface of moulded plastic or material with
recesses for a board game comprising of two halves made
of vacuum formed or injection moulded plastic is described
which allows storage of cards or playing pieces and their
easy retrieval.
2. A playing surface of moulded plastic or material with
recesses as claimed in Claim No.l. which enhances
portability as the two halves can be stacked over each
other and a special telescoping effect would hold cards
or playing pieces in place.
3. A playing surface of moulded plastic or material with
recesses as claimed in Claim No.l. which enhances easy
retrieval and selection of cards due to the slopes
designed at the base of the recesses in which such cards
or playing pieces are kept.
4. A playing surface of moulded plastic or material with
recesses as claimed in Claim No.l. has recesses which
are designed in such a way that the slopes at the
periphery at the base of the recesses allow cards to be
levered up on digital pressure enabling retrieval of
such cards to be managed with one hand.
5 . A playing surface of moulded plastic or material with
recesses as claimed in Claim No.l. which enhances
organised arrangement of playing pieces and cards at Lh & beginning as well as at conclusion of the game.
6. A playing surface of moulded plastic or material with
recesses as claimed in Claim No.l. has spaces underneath
the raised surface which can be used for additional
storage of playing pieces.
/Continued......
7. A playing surface of moulded plastic or material with
recesses being in two halves as described in Claim
No.2. can be secured temporarily by means of a
designed 'mid line clip' No.14 in Figure 2.
