Abstract

A magnetic-electronic bite indicator comprises a body in the form of a box to accommodate the magnetic and electronic components, a "V" shaped extension on the top of the box that acts as a rest for a fishing rod, and an aperture extending into the box to house a pulley wheel 10, over which the fishing line passes. The pulley wheel 10 is mounted on the same spindle as a magnet carrying assembly 14 and they rotate freely together. Magnets mounted on the magnet carrying assembly 14 rotate so that they pass in front of a "Hall" effect magnetic sensitive device 15, causing an electronic change to take place in that device and causing it to act as a switch to an electronic circuit. The electronic circuit, when switched on, causes an audible tone to be heard from the device and an indicator lamp to be lit. <IMAGE>

Description

Mgnetic-Electronic Bite Indicator This invention relates to a magnetic-electronic bite indicator.
Electronic bite indicators are well known fishing aids used by the angler to give a visual and/or audible indication when a fish is nibbling at the bait of his fishing line/a fish is biting at the bait/lure at the end of the fishing line or the angler has caught a fish on his fishing line.
Existing electronic bite indicators operate by either a lever which is moved by the fishing line when there is movement on the line, or by a vane, connected to a pulley wheel, that passes through a beam of light. The action of the vane passing through the light source and breaking the beam of light acts as a switch that operates the indicator circuits.
Anglers however, experience problems with existing bite indicators. Electronic bite indicators that use a lever to operate the alarms are prone to false alarms and are difficult to adjust to climatic conditions. Electronic bite indicators that operate by breaking a beam of light fail to indicate when the line passes slowly over the pulley wheel and are very wasteful on batteries.
Electronic bite indicators in general are relatively expensive.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described together with reference to the accompanying drawings in which - Figure 1 shows the eternal front view of the device Figure 2 shows the eternal side view of the device; Figure 3 shows the internal view of the device when the front half of the casing is removed, and Figure 4 shows the detail of the pulley and magnet carrying assembly together with magnets.
Referring to the drawings, the magnetic-electronic bite indicator, as shown in Figures 1 and 2, comprises a closed box formed in two halves so that when together a "v" is formed in the centre top of the box and a closed aperture extends into the box to house the pulley wheel 1. The bottom of the box is moulded so that the replaceable bank rod screw assembly 11, slots into the casing and becomes firmly fizzed when both halves of the unit are joined together and secured by the fixing nuts and bolts.
When in operation, the magnetic-electronic bite indicator is connected to the bank rod by way of.
the bank rod screw assembly 11 and the angler places his fishing rod so that it rests in the V at the top of the device and so that the fishing line rests on the pulley wheel 1.
When switching on the magnetic-electronic bite indicator the device is set to a no alarm situation, if necessary, by moving the fishing line slightly over the pulley wheel 1 r;) therefore moving the pulley wheel, until a no alarm condition exists. Any further movement of the fishing line and hence the pulley wheel will result in a visual alarm by way of the indicator lamp 12 and an audible alarm by way of the internal electronics and loudspeaker.
Referring to Figure 3 and 4. The action of turning the pulley wheel 10 causes the magnet carrying assembly 14 to turn in sympathy as the pulley wheel 10 and the magnet carrying assembly 14 are mounted on the same spindle. As one of the magnets mounted upon the magnet carrying assembly 14 comes in close proximity to the "Hall" effect magnetic sensitive device 15, mounted on the printed circuit board 16, it changes the electronic state on the "Hall" effect magnetic sensitive device 15 from off to on, thus acting as a switch.
For as long as a magnet is in close proximity to the "Hall" effect magnetic sensitive device 15 the device will remain switched on. The action of switching on the "Hall" effect magnetic sensitive device 15 results in the switching on of the electronic circuitry mounted upon the printed circuit board 16 and an audible tone will be heard from the inbuilt loudspeaker and the indicator lamp 12 will illuminate. Figure 1.
As a magnet, mounted on the magnet carrying assembly 14 rotates away from close proximity to the "Hall" effect magnetic sensitive device 15, due to movement on the pulley wheel iC), it will no longer have influence on the "Hall" effect magnetic sensitive device 15 and the "Hall" effect magnetic sensitive device will return to its stable state off. This electronic action will result in the tone generated by the electronic circuitry being switched off and the indicator lamp 12 being extinguished. Any further movement by the pulley wheel 10 that results in a magnet coming into close proximity to the "Hall" effect magnetic sensitive device will result in above action being repeated.
If the fishing line is pulled sharply over the pulley wheel IC) it will cause the magnets mounted on the magnet carrying assembly 14 to rotate quickly past the "Hall" effect magnetic sensitive device 15, resulting in an intermittent tone from the loudspeaker and a flashing on and off of the indicator lamp 12. Figure 1.
5 the magnetic-electronic bite indicator is effectively switched off when not indicating an alarm situation oly leakage current is drawn by the device, thus giving a. long battery life.

Claims (2)

CLAIM
1. A magnetic-electronic bite indicator comprise a body in the form of a box to accommodate the magnetic and electronic components, a V shaped extension on the top of the box that act as a rest for a fishing rod, and an aperture tending into the box carrying a pulley wheel that has associated to it a magnet carrying assembly, and magnets, that cause an electronic change to take place in a magnetic sensitive device when they come in close pro > : imity to each other, and therefore act as a switch to an electronic or electric circuit.
2.. A magnetic-electronic bite indicator ac claimed in Claim 1. whereas the pulley wheel and magnet carrying assembly rotate togethe:- on the same spindle so that each magnet on the magnet carrying assembly passes, in turn. sufficiently close to the "Hall" effect magnetic sensitive electronic device to influence it to change its electronic state.
