Abstract

A cyclone separator comprising an elongated separating chamber (2) having a longitudinal axis of symmetry between opposite first and second ends the separator including at least one feed inlet (3) adjacent the first end and at least two outlets, (4 and 5). At least one of the outlets is for discharge of a more dense component of the mixture and at least another of the outlets is for discharge of a less dense component of the mixture. The cyclone separator further includes control means (10) which includes an outlet passage (14) which is at or adjacent or forms part of one of the outlets (5) and is operable so that the flow through the outlet passage (14) thereof can be in either one or the other direction.
