Description

Sunlight Protection Devices This invention relates to devices for protecting the lips of human beings from sunlight.
It is well known that dormant infections in sensory nerve cells of certain parts of the human body are activated by sunburn. People who suffer from a localised herpes infection of the lips are subjected to extreme discomfort caused by lip blisters and sores when exposed to sunlight and in particular when sun bathing. Creams and lotions are currently available but do not overcome the problem referred to above.
Other problems which arise when people are subjected to heat include blisters to the lips and other discomforts.
According to the present invention in one aspect there is provided a device for protecting the lips of a human being from sunlight, the device comprising a shield of a size and shape to overlie the lips of a user of the device. Preferably, the shield includes a rearwardly extending protrusion capable of being retained between the lips of the user.
Preferably the shield and protrusion are of unitary constructions and are manufactured from a plastics material. The shield may be faced with a reflective material; alternatively the shield may be of a light colour to reflect the sun's rays.
For cosmetic reasons the shield may be of a pink coloration.
According to the present invention in another aspect, there is provided a lip protecting device for use when sunbathing, the device comprising a shield portion of a size sufficient to overlie the lips of a user and a mouthpiece protruding from the rear face of the shield portion by which the shield portion can be held above the lips to protect the same from the rays of the sun.
The invention will now be described by way of example only with reference to the accompanying diagramatic drawing in which: Figure 1 is a plan view from above of a lip protecting device in accordance with the invention; and Figure 2 is a side view of the device illustrated in Figure 1.
The device illustrated includes a shield portion 1 manufactured from a plastics material and an inwardly protruding mouthpiece 2. The shield portion 1 and mouthpiece 2 are preferably formed integrally and are of a light colour to reflect heat away from the lips of the user. For cosmetic reasons, the shield may be of a pink coloration.
The length of the mouthpiece 2 is preferably such that the shield can be sited above and spaced from the lips of the user whilst sunbathing with the device supported without discomfort between the user's lips.
Materials used for the devices include an expanded foam product or other plastics-type material which can readily be cleaned for hygienic purposes.
It will of course be appreciated that various constructions of shields and mouthpieces can be adopted. In this context it is to be understood that the specific device illustrated and described is merely one exemplary construction of the invention disclosed herein.
In use the mouthpiece is held between the lips or teeth of the prone user with the shield sited just above the lips. The shield effectively protects the lips from the sun's rays thereby minimising the chances of a herpes virus being activated.

Claims (7)

CLA.114S:
1. A device for protecting the lips of a human being from sunlight, the device comprising a shield of a size and shape to overlie the lips of a user of the device.
2. A device as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the shield includes a rearwardly extending protrusion capable of being retained between the lips of the user.
3. A device as claimed in Claim 2 wherein the shield and protrusion are of unitary construction and are manufactured from a plastics material.
4. A device as claimed in any one of Claims 1 to 3 wherein the shield is faced with a reflective material.
5. k device as claimed in any one of Claims 1 to 3 wherein the shield is of a light colour to reflect the sun's rays.
6. A lip protectina device for use when sunbathing, the device comprising a shield portion of a size sufficient to overlie the lips of a user and a mouthpiece protruding from the rear face of the shield portion by which the shield portion can be held above the lips to protect the same from the rays of the sun.
7. A lip protecting device substantially as herein described with reference to Figures 1 and 2 of the accopanying drawings.
