Abstract
A shield plate for use in a linking sewing machine comprises a shield member 1 with a needle aperture 11. A yarn support stem 4 is fixed to the member 1 and has a conical portion 41 with a flange 42 at the free end. In use the shield plate is connected to the machine by a fixing arm 3 and yarn engages around the conical portion of the stem 4. The conical portion and the flange 42 serve to hold the yarn in position throughout a sewing operation. <IMAGE>
Description
SHIELD PLATE
The present invention concerns a stitch or shield plate for use in a linking or disk sewing machine, especially one that is compatible for use with various yarns so that the yarns may be run smoothly, without snarling, nor matting, and without breaking large needles, while saving a lot of time, labor and cost at the same time.
Conventionally, there is no device whatsoever to support the side of a shield plate where the needle hole is present in a disk sewing machine, that is responsible for incidents which can occur whenever the machine is put to use. Firstly, thick yarns cannot be used with the machine; seconoly, the ease of the occurrence of snarlup of the yarn, eventually resulting in breakage of large needles, causing much waste of money; still thirdly, difficulty of yarn linkup bringing about much nuisance throughout the operation procedure, causing gross waste of labor, time and costs.
The invention provides a shield plate having a yarn supporting stem fitted to one side of the needle aperture, characterised in that the end of the yarn supporting stem has a conical portion, the free end of such conical portion having a flange
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings, of which:
Figure 1 is a three-dimensional exploded perspective view of a shield plate with Figure 1A showing the yarn support stem in section;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the assembled shield plate of Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the assembled shield plate and part of a disk sewing machine.
Figure 1 shows a shield member 1 and a yarn support stem 4.
The shield member 1 has a needle aperture 11 provides to accommodate an ingoing needle. Two fixing holes 12 and 12A are provided to the righthand side and above the aperture 11; on the other side there extends an angled back protecting shelf 2. On the right of the shield member 1, a fixing arm 3 having a fixing slot 31 extends back at right angles.
The yarn support stem 4 has a conical lower portion 41 provided with a flange 42 at its free end. The support stem 4 has a flat abutment section 43, a screw-threaded through hole 431 and recess 432.
During assembly the screwhole 431 and the fitting recess 432 of the support stem 4 are aligned with the fixing holes 12 and 12A respectively of the shield member 1. Next, a fixing screw 5 is screwed from the back of the shield member 1 through the fitting hole 12, and into the screwhole 431. Then, a fixing pin 6 is inserted through the hole 12A and into the fitting recess 432. The complete assembly is shown in Figure 2.
In Figure 3 the shield is fitted outside of the points of a rotary dial 10, and by means of a fixing screwbolt 7, locked into the slot 31 of the fitting arm 3, the shield is secured to the machine body. The corresponding end of the screwbolt 7 is fitted to the machine body in the first place. In use the garment to be sewn is brought flat exposed upon the points of the dial 10, and the sewing is done by rotating the dial 10 and shuttling to and fro a sewing needle 8, whereupon the yarn 9 engages around the conical portion 41 of the supporting stem 4. The conical portion 41 and the flange 42 serve to hold the yarn 9 in position throughout the sewing operation. This arrangement in short permits easy linkup, substantial saving of labor and time, cost, relieves snarling, matting, and reduces the possibility of breakage of the needle 8 even if it is of a large size.
Claims (2)
1. A shield plate having a yarn supporting stem (4) fitted to one side of the needle aperture (11), characterised in that the end of the yarn supporting stem (4) has a conical portion (41), the free end of such conical portion having a flange (42).
2. A shield plate substantially as herein described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.
