Abstract

A window pane 2 is fixed in a frame 8, by two beads 3 and 4 which have bored bushes therein secured by a serrated connectors 5. There may be a foam anti-vibration washer mounted on the connectors 5, for preventing rattling of the pane. <IMAGE>

Description

PANEL FIXING The invention relates to panel fixing.
According to the invention there is provided apparatus for securing a panel in position in an opening, comprising a plurality of support members for supporting an edge of the panel, and a device for connecting the support members with the panel edge secured therebetween.
Using the invention it is possible to provide a relatively quick and simple fixing for the holding in place of glass.
Apparatus embodying the invention is hereinafter described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Fig. 1 is a schematic view of a pane of glass held in position by glazing beads; Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of a part of the device; and Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of a modification.
Referring to the drawings there is shown apparatus 1 for securing a panel such as a glazing panel 2 in position comprising two spaced apart support members 3 and 4 connected by a connector 5 which is adapted to lock the members 3 and 4, which are suitably glazing beads, together.
Each glazing bead 3 or 4 is a loose glazing bead. The glazing beads 3 and 4 are used on each side of the glass pane 2. On an external edge of each bead 3 or 4 is a flange 6 which is bigger than the maximum opening which is in use cut for the window 2, as shown in Fig. 1, there being a frame 8 in the opening.
Each loose glazing bead 3 or 4 has a plurality of bores 9 therein in each of which is fixed a bush 10, the arrangement being that the bushes 10 are spaced apart along a bead 3 or 4. Each bush 10 has an internal bore 11 which has a rebate or interference ratchet 12.
The connector 5 is adapted for push-fit insertion in the bores 11 and is double-ended with a serrated exterior 13, 14 to its body 12.
By double-ended is meant that the serrations 13, 14 on opposite ends face in opposite directions.
In use to mount a pane of glass 2 in an opening, a serrated plug 5 is pushed into a respective bush 10 in one glazing bead 3 only. An anti-vibration device in the form of a foam rubber washer 15 for preventing glass rattle is placed over each plug 5. The glazing bead 3 so prepared, say the left hand one as shown in Fig. 3, is placed in the opening cut for the window and the glass pane is placed against it, the bead 3 effectively forming a ring. The second glazing bead 4, in the form of a ring, is then placed in the opening from the other side of the pane 2 and the bushes 10 and plugs 5 are lined up. The two glazing beads 3 and 4 are then pushed towards each other until the flanges 6 on the glazing beads 3 and 4 are in contact with the pane and are retained there because the serrations 13, 14 on the connectors become locked in the bores 11 of the bushes 10 so that the glazing beads 3 and 4 cannot come apart.

Claims (12)

1. Apparatus for securing a panel in position in an opening, comprising a plurality of support members for supporting an edge of the panel, and a device for connecting the support members with the panel edge secured therebetween.
2. Apparatus according to Claim 1, the support members each having a plurality of spaced bores in each of which there is a bush with a retaining means, and there being a plurality of connecting devices comprising connectors each having means adapted to be retained by the retaining means of the bushes.
3. Apparatus according to Claim 2, the retaining means of each bush comprising a rebate surface in a bore in the bush.
4. Apparatus according to Claim 3, the connectors each comprising a serrated outer surface.
5. Apparatus according to Claim A, the outer surface having two sets of serrations.
6. Apparatus according to Claim 5, the serrations of one set being directed in a direction opposite to the other set.
7. Apparatus according to Claim 5 or Claim 6, there being an unserrated part of the connector between the two sets.
8. Apparatus according to any preceding Claim, including an anti-vibration device.
9. Apparatus according to Claim 8, the anti-vibration device comprising a foam washer mounted on a connector device.
10. Apparatus according to any preceding Claim, the support members comprising glazing beads and the panel comprising a glass pane.
11. Apparatus for securing a panel in position in an opening, substantially as hereinbefore described with refrence to the accompanying drawings.
12. A glazing system, in which a window pane is secured in position by apparatus according to any preceding Claim.
