Abstract
A holder for storing card mounted slide transparencies defines a plurality of pockets within which the transparencies may be received. Each pocket has an opening extending along one edge through which the transparency may be inserted into the pocket, and has at least one further opening and preferably two, one at each bottom corner, such that when a slide is received within the pocket air may flow through the pocket via said openings thereby removing any gases from the pocket which may otherwise accumulate therein and damage the slide transparency. <IMAGE>
Description
P.C.A. "AIRFLOW" SLIDE HOLDER
Technical Field This invention relates to a plastic photographic slide holder for the purpose of storing films.
Background: Plastic slide holders have been in existance for the past 40 years to my knowledge, they can be made of any type of plastic, that can be sealed by high frequency welding or heat sealing to form pockets of different sizes, according to the size of film used, during the past ten years there has been much talk and write ups of the danger of using plastics as they could be injurious to the emulsion on the acetate film caused by the minute amount of gases which are created in the manufacture of the plastic sleeting which eminates from the heating of the plastics, and in other cases, sweating, discolouring, and aging, another typical example is migration, this is a term used in the plastic welding industry, where two sheets of plastic are welded together to form a pocket, but the plastic used come from two different suppliers, thereby the plasticisors used are of different quality and thP amounts used are different, and as you can see from a part sample enclosed this is what happens, I have no idea of the age of this sample or who made it, but with my invention "AIRFLOW" this could never happen, due to the fresh air flowing through the channels at all times @@@ flushing the @@@@@@@@@ and toxic @@@@@ @@@@ . Plastic slide holders are relatively not expensive, with the exception of someone coming up with a lot of technical data that the one they have produced will preserve your slides for years (how many years?) and eh?rxe 3 to 4 times the price, my invention is solely in thp manufacture and design not in the materials used and the price structure is not altered in an way.
The technical features of this invention are: - that the gaps between the welds, sides and bottoms create an "Airflow" keeping your films fresh and flushing away musty smells a any injurious or toxic gases present.
The accompanying drawings, mock up samples of the invention, and a sample of migration, will be of assistance to you in deciding the issue of a patent.
Claims (12)
1. A holder for storing card mounted slide transparencies, said holder defining at least one pocket within which a slide transparency may be received, the or each pocket having a first opening along one edge, through which a slide transparency may be inserted into the pocket, the or each pocket having at least one further opening, the arrangement being such that when a slide transparency is received within a pocket air may flow through the pocket via said openings thereby removing any gases from the pocket which may otherwise accumulate therein and damage the slide transparency.
2. A holder according to Claim 1, wherein the holder defines an array of said pockets.
3. A holder according to Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein each pocket defines two of said further openings.
11. A holder according to.Claim 3 wherein each pocket is substantially square, said first opening being located along an upper edge of the pocket, each further opening being disposed adjacent a lower corner of the pocket.
5. A holder according to any one of preceding claims wherein the holder is formed from a plastics material.
6. A holder according to Claim 5 wherein the holder comprises an upper layer of plastics material and a lower layer of plastics material the upper layer being secured to the lower layer by means of a heat welding process, said welding process forming weld lines which define said pocket or pockets.
7. A holder according to Claim 6 wherein the or each pocket is defined within two opposed weld lines constituting the sides of the pocket and a weld line constituting the base of the pocket, the length of each weld line constituting a side of the pocket being less than the height of the pocket and the length of the weld line constituting the base of the pocket being less than the width of the pocket.
8. A holder according to Claim 6 or 7 wherein said lower layer comprises a backing sheet and said upper layer comprises a plurality of strips extending across the backing sheet, each strip being attached to the backing sheet so as to form a plurality of said pockets.
9. A method of storing photograpic slides, said method comprising the steps of forming a holder in accordance with any one of Claims 1 to 8, and inserting each slide into a pocket of the holder thereby causing the enlargement of said openings such that air may flow through the pocket and remove any gases from the pocket which may otherwise accumulate therein and damage the slide.
10. A holder substantially as herein described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.
11. A method of storing photograpic sli-des substantially as herein described.
12. Any novel feature or combination of features disclosed herein.
