220,104. Piggott & Co., Ltd., T., and Dyson, A. June 8, 1923. Centrifugal machines.-Relates to a process for the manufacture or lining of pipes and other hollow bodies in which cement, water, and, if necessary, filling material are poured into the mould or pipe which is rotated about its axis, the materials being mixed and spread over the interior surface of the mould or pipe by centrifugal action due to its rotation. The pipe &c. a to be lined is provided at each end with a flanged ring 1 retained in position by bolts 2 passing through both rings and resting on friction rollers while the cement and filling material are fed thereto from a trough b. The trough b is of U-section &c. closed at its outer end, while the other end is secured to a rotatable spindle d mounted on a carriage e. In operation, the cement &c. is fed into the trough b and the carriage e moved forward to advance the trough into the pipe. The pipe is then rotated and the trough inverted by means of a hand-wheel j, while simultaneously or subsequently the water &c. necessary for mixing is fed into the pipe by means (not shown) such as a perforated sprinkler tube extending throughout the length of the pipe. If desired, the speed of the mould may be accelerated after mixing has taken place to distribute the material evenly over the surface. Modified methods of supporting and rotating the trough and pipe are described.
