Abstract
A wheel aid, has a main frame 11 which is secured under the main body of a tractor mounted hydraulic fertiliser spreader or chemical sprayers. To this frame attach adjustable stub axle housings 19,21 which slide into the main frame. They are secured by appropriate means, at a desired track width. To these housings fix swivel stub axles 23. These can be handed and have a spindle which slides into the stub axle housings. This spindle allows stub axles to rotate 360 degrees in the manner of a castor. The wheels are rotatably mounted on the stub axes. The wheel aid frame is left fitted to the spreader or sprayer when not in use. The wheels are removed by withdrawing retaining pins in stub axles and lifting spreader or sprayer on tractor hydraulics whereupon the wheels drop out of the axle housings. <IMAGE>
Description
W H E E L A I D
DESCRIPTION wheels to aid the use of both tractor mounted fetiliser spreaders and chemical sprayers.
Sprayers and fertilizer spreaders are well known implements with wheels, but these are in the trailer form and their wheels are on rigid axles.
The present invention relates to an aid which relieves the weight off the tractor to enable the mounted fertiliser spreader or sprayer to carry more without the need to add extra weight on the front of the tractor. Normally extra eight is added to the front of the tractor to counter balance the weight on the back. With the wheel aid the front eight is not required. The wheel aid makes the back wheels of the tractor lighter, which has the advantage of them not sinking as much on et land.
The invention consists of a frame to fit to the mounted fertiliser spreader or sprayer and o swivel wheels which fit to the frame by spindles. At the top of the spindles are linch pins which stop the swivel wheels from detaching from the nain frame. The frame is designed to allow the swivel eels to revolve on the spindles a fll 360 without any obstruction from the main frame of the mounted fertiliser spreader or sprayer.
A speci-fic embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which
Figure 1 shows in perspective the fertiliser spreader
with the vheels in position ready for use.
Figure 2 illustrates the wheel aid ready for
assembly.
figure 3 is a side elevation of the left hand
stub axle 13.
Figure 4 is the rear elevation of the left
hand stub axle 13.
Referring to the drawings the wheel aid consists of a frame with two swivel wheels. The frame is secured to the main frame of the fertiliser spreader or sprayer b, for example, bolts or U bolts (not shown). Any similar means to secure it could be used. The swivel wheels 23 and 25 are near to the rear of the implement as shown in
Figure 'f.
The frame of the wheel aid is made up of four main beams as shown in Figure 2. Hollow beam 11 is the main part of the frame as it receives stub axle housings 19 and 21.
Beams 13, 15 and 17 make it rigid. It is envisaged, in some cases, only holly beam 11, or part of hollow beam 11 will be built into the main frame of the fertiliser spreader or sprayer when it is manufactured.
At each end of hollow beam 11 telescope stub axle housings 19 and 21. These consist of a hollow shaft and beam to fit into hollow beam 11 as shown in Figure 2. These axle housings telescope into hollow beam 11 and are secured byw studs 27 and 29 respectfully. The width of the wheel base can be adjusted to follow tractors of various widths. It is envisaged that in some circumstances this facility will not be required.
The left hand stub axle 23 is constzleted as shown in
Figures 2, 3 and 4. Figure 2 shows a general view;
Figure 3 is a side elevation, anS Figure 1, thp rear elevation.
The right hand stub axle 25 is constructed of the opposite hand.
Axle housing 19 receives stub axle spindle 23, washer 31 is pushed on the top of the spindle, and linch pin 33 holds it secure. A similar procedure is carried out for right hand stub axle 25.
The linch pins allow the wheels to be removed quickly.
Other means, such as rawl pins or nuts and bolts, could be used.
