Abstract

Rolls of fabric.-The ends of rolls of linoleum or like material are protected by a device comprising a cylindrical member 2 and disc 1 means being provided to secure the device to the roll 9. The disc 1 may be attached to the member 2 or be detachable therefrom. The member 2 may have a slit 7 so that it can grip the roll when string is tied round it. The member 2 may have a flanged portion to retain a detachable disc 1 and have tongued and slotted parts to enable it to be applied to various sizes of rolls, the device being secured by passing the tongues through the slots and bending them back on themselves. The device is made of ply wood, cardboard, strawboard, metal, or wicker work, or of a combination of two or more of these materials. The first Provisional Specification describes discs used in combination with larger pieces of canvas, paper, &c. which may pass over the ends of the roll and be tied with string; protectors formed with openings so that material may be removed from the roll without removing the protectors; and protectors secured to the roll by being enclosed in covering paper. The second Provisional Specification describes protectors made of tin, brass, and papier mÔchÚ; and flanges cut at suitable intervals to adapt the protectors to rolls of different diameters.
