Abstract
220,019. English Electric Co., Ltd., and Bolton, R. A. R. Nov. 20, 1923. High-potential switches, specially adapted to deal with heavy alternating currents, have a group of contact members connected in parallel arranged round a central contact member and a group of insulated leading in conductors from one switch terminal arranged round a central insulated conductor connected to the other terminal. According to the construction shown in Fig. 1, current enters the switch by an insulated tubular conductor 6 and leaves by three insulated conductors 10 arranged in a circle round the conductor 6 and mechanically and electrically tied together at top and bottom by members 12. 9. The member 9 is connected to a ring 14 connected by three strips 13 to a circle of eight contact fingers 8 which are fixed on a tube 15 on the lower end of a switch operating rod' 18 and which contact with a fixed ring contact 7 on the conductor 6. An additional path for the current is provided from the member 9 to a contact 17 and thence to the tube 15 and contacts 8. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, there are four conductors 9, connected by a ring 12 and surrounding the conductor 6, and there are four switch arms 8 pivoted at 10 and contacting with the contact 7 on the conductor 6. The operating rod 18 has fixed to it a sleeve 20 which slides on the conductor 6 and by means of links 25 actuates the arms 8.
