Abstract

A rack or trolley manufactured to hold trays, pans or shelves in which the sides having the runners for the trays etc are formed from a flat sheet of metal by cutting a series of shaped slots and bending the metal within the slots to form the runners. The corner structure may be formed from the same sheet of metal. The rack may be used vertically or horizontally. <IMAGE>

Description

TRAY AND PAN RACKS This invention relates to a tray or pan rack.
Tray and pan racks are used to hold or transport goods or food within a factory,- canteen, hospital, hotel, and bakery.
The goods or food are placed in pans or on trays. These are then slid into the racks for storage or transportation to another department or process. The trays and pans are located in the racks by resting their flanges or base on horozontal runners spnced at appropriate distances within the rack.
On 11 existing trsJ --nd Fan racks the runners referred to above, and shown as 10, in PlC. 3, are mace and formed as individual angles and welded, riveted, or bolted to corner pillars, which are usually tubular. Where the runner angle join the pillars e crevice is formed. In this crevice dirt and deposits of grease build ut, also thorough cleaning is extremely difficult, if not impossible.
As food is often held within these racks, the build up of dirt in these crevices is most undesirable and a potential health hazard.
The production process of the invention will now be described, with reference to the accompanying drawing in which-;- Figure 1 shows a flat sheet of metal in which 2 series of slots have been cut.
Figure 2 is R close up of a slot. The broken lines indicating where the metal will be bent.
Figure 3 shows a close up of the metal panel after bending. The horozontal runners 10, in FIG. 3, are spaced as required throughout the length of the panel.
Figure 4 shows a completed tray or pan rack.
The method of production is as follows: First a series of slots at the required pitch are cut down the length of the sheet.
This may be done in a member of ways, but the suggested method, is by the use of a CNC turret press. This produces the item shown in FIG. 1.
she next operation is to form the runners across the sheet. This may be performed on a press brake.
After this the strengthening folds are formed along the edges of the sheet, again using a press brake.
The invention featured in these racks is the forming of the runners from a continous sheet of metal.
The rack shown in FIG. 4, is produced by using two panels, manufactured as described, and having these panels secured by appropriate cross braces to fort the racks.
Multiple units of these racks may be produced by the use of more than two panels, again with appropriate braces.
The formed panels may also be assembled in a horozontal position to resent another form of rack.

2 4 rack having the runner and corner structure formed from 2 continuous sheet of metal.
3 A rack as described in Claim 1 or Claim 2, with the continuous panel containing the runners being positioned vertically or horozontally.
4 A rack as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2, being static or mobile.
