Description

SPRING ASSISTED RISING BUTT HINGE.
This invention relates to a spring assisted rising butt hinge.
Hinges are available vith rising butts which assist closing, but are not positive in their action. There are Other spring hinges but they are Of a rather complicate nature.
This invention is based on the principle Of the rising butt hinge in which the pin of the hinge is elongated up beyond the top of the hinge, and this extension is provided with a thread at its upper end. Thy fitting a spring around the pin. then a nut and locknut On the thread, the hinge is transformed into a positive closing device.
The detail Of the hinge will now be described by way Of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows a side view Of the hinge in the closed position; Figure 2 shows the inner view of the hinge ;hen opened out flat, Figure 3 shows a top view Of the hinge with a third flange to make it a closing device which works in both directions.
Referring to the drawing, the hinge comprises a rising butt hinge with fixing plates 1 and holes for screws 2. The hinge pin 3 is fitted to one side Of the hinge with an angled wrap-around 4 which mates with the angled part Of the other fixing plate.
The hinge pin 3 is elongated upwards and is threaded at the top 5. h washer 6 is fitted over the pin and rests On the top of the second half of the hinge. A spring 7 is fitted around the pin and rests On the washer 6. A washer 8 is fitted above the spring 7, and a nut 9 and locknut 10 are fitted above the washer 8 onto the thread 5.

Claims (1)

  1. CLAIMS.
    1 h rising butt hinge with spring attachment to an elongated pin, to make it into a positive closing device0 2 h spring assisted rising butt hinge as claimed in claim 1 ;ith threaded elongated pin provided with nut and locknut to allow tension adjustment to the spring.
    A A spring assisted rising butt hinge as claimed in claims 1 Or 2 with a third flange arranged in such a way as to make it a closing device which works in either direction.
    4 A spring assisted rising butt hinge as claimed in claims 1, 2 Or 3 with variable shaped fixing plates to suit special applications.
    5 A spring assisted rising butt hinge substantially as described herein ,tith reference to figures 1 to 3 of the accompanying drawing.
