Abstract

A stamp comprises a handle (11), a mounting plate member (10) generally of metal, and a stamp printing pattern (12). The mounting plate member (10) comprises a base plate (13) supporting on one side the printing pattern (12) such as by adhesive. A collar (14) formed integral with and upstanding from the other side of the base plate (13) receives a part (16) of the handle (11) as a press-fit. Preferably the inner wall of the collar (14) and the part (16) of the handle (11) are provided with complementary formations (17 and 18) to prevent angular displacement of the handle (11) relative to the collar (14). <IMAGE>

Description

A STAMP The present invention relates to a stamp and, in particular, to a stamp having a metal mounting member for mounting a handle to a stamp printing pattern.
The handle of a conventional stamp is mounted to the stamp printing pattern by means of a metal plate secured to the handle by a screw-threaded fastener or a nail which passes through the plate into an end of the handle. The printing pattern, such as a pattern moulded in rubber, is attached to the surface of the plate opposite to the handle by adhesive. The plate serves to fix the handle and to reinforce the printing pattern.
This type of stamp has the disadvantage that the fastening between the handle and the plate may eventually become loose. Furthermore the process of mounting the handle to the plate is time consuming.
The present invention seeks to provide a stamp having a mounting plate such that the handle may easily and rigidly mounted thereto.
Thus according to the present invention there is provided a stamp conprising a handle, mounting plate member generally of metal, and a stamp printing pattern, said mounting plate member comprising a base plate supporting on one side the stamp printing pattern, and a collar integral with and upstanding from the other side of the base plate, the collar receiving a part of the handle.
More preferably the inner wall of the collar and the part of the handle are provided with complementary formations to prevent angular displacement of the handle relative to the collar.
The invention will now be more particularly described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing which is an exploded perspective view of one embodiment of a stamp according to the invention.
Referring to the drawing, the stamp shown therein comprises a mounting plate member 10, a handle 11 and a rubber stamp printing pattern 12. The mounting plate member 10 comprises a base plate 13 and a collar 14 integral with and upstanding from the centre of the upper side of the base plate 13. Two axially extending projections 17 are provided at diametrically opposed positions on the inner wall of the collar 14.
The handle 11 has a hand grip 15 at one end and a cylindrical part 16 at its other end for press-fitting into the collar 14. Two slots 18 complementary in shape to the projections 17 are provided at diametrically opposite positions on the cylindrical surface of the part 16.
When the part 16 of the handle 11 is press-fitted into the collar 14 of the mounting plate member 10, the projections 17 engage in slots 18 to prevent angular displacement of the handle 11 relative to the mounting plate member 10.
The stamp printing pattern 12 is attached to the lower side of the base plate member 13 such as by adhesive.
The above embodiment is given by way of example only and various modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the invention.

Claims (4)

1. A stamp comprising a handle, a mounting plate member generally of metal, and a stamp printing pattern, said mounting plate member comprising a base plate supporting on one side the stamp printing pattern, and a collar integral with and upstanding from the other side of the base plate, the collar receiving a part of the handle.
2. The stamp of claim 1, wherein the handle is press-fitted into the collar.
3. The stamp of claim 2, wherein the inner wall of the collar and the part of the handle are provided with complementary formations to prevent angular displacement of the handle relative to the collar.
4. A stamp substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
