Description
(54) STAMPING DEVICE
(71) I, JEAN JACQUOT of 41, Rue
Roger Brun, 13005 Marseille, France, of
French Nationality do hereby declare the invention, for which I pray that a patent may be granted to me, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be described in and by the following statement:
The subject of the invention concerns a device assembling prefabricated units to make a stamp with a legible positioning indicator.
It is designed to allow quick assembly, with no glueing, of a stamp making it easy to see which way up the inscription is and position the printing.
In known devices, the assembly of these stamps required the user to carry out a series of adjustments and assemblies which came apart during use because of impacts and other effects or external agencies.
The device according to the invention eliminates these drawbacks and, on the basis of prefabricated units, makes it possible, merely by clipping, to effect the speedy, simplified and stabilised assembly of this accessory with attendant insertion of the indicator for selection and showing the way up for printing.
According to the invention there is- provided a stamping device comprising a handle, a mounting and a printing head holding frame, first cooperating means being provided on said handle and said mounting for securing said handle to said mounting in use and second cooperating means being provided on said mounting and said frame for securing said mounting to said frame in use, said first and second cooperating means being operative when a force is applied tending to push the handle and the frame towards each other, the printing head hold ing frame having means to indicate the orientation thereof.
On the attached drawings, giving as a nonlimiting example of one of the forms of embodiment of the object of the invention:
FIGURE 1 shows the stamp seen in elevation and in section;
FIGURES 2 and 3 show details of the assemblies on a different scale.
The stamp, Figures 1, 2 and 3, consists of a combination of three units.
The mounting 1, rigid and made of transparent material is U-shaped and the end of each leg 2, 3 comprises hooks 4, 5.
Its top surface is provided with a conical lug 6 with a circular crown ring 7 forming a groove 7' also conical in section.
This lug or shoulder takes the base of handle 8.
This base is tubular with a slot to provide flexibility 9 and an end piece, also conical, which interlocks by force-fitting with tthe receiving profiles 6, 7.
The direction of this assembly is selfreinforcing because every time it is used there is pressure which stabilises the assembly, arrow A, and prevents the units from coming apart.
The printing head holder unit consists of frame 10 in the shape of an inverted U -provided in the middle with a third stiffening and bearing leg 11.
The end legs 12, 13 are equipped on their outer faces with shaped notches 14, 15 corresponding with hooks 4 and 5.
Hook 4 projects further in order to keep leg 12 farther away from frame 2 so as to leave the space 16 at the front for the vertical legible positioning indicator.
Legs 11, 12, 13 also leave a top space 17 for insertion of the same indicator in the horizontal plane. This indicator can be decorative, advertising, instructive or functional, and legible over the whole of the peripheral surface on either side of the base of the handle.
The parallel shoulders 18, 19 projecting beyond the outer surface of frame 10 serve to house the printing head of the stamp.
In order to put the frame 10 into position by force fitting, the slight flexibility of legs 12 and 13 is used, and as soon as these slot into place they are irreversibly locked.
On the other hand, all pressures, impacts and other external stresses, arrows B, reinforce the assembly.
Assembly is carried out without glueing or adjustment, the final positioning of all the units is instantaneous and self-stabilising.
The time-saving, resistance to wear and strength of this assembly give this stamp the maximum utility, to which is added a considerable reduction in the cost price.
Nevertheless the shapes, dimensions and arrangement of the various units may vary within the limits of the equivalents, as may the materials used to manufacture them without thereby altering the general concept of the invention just described.
WHAT I CLAIM IS:
1. A stamping device comprising a handle, a mounting and a printing head-holding frame, first cooperating means being provided on said handle and said mounting for securing said handle to said mounting in use and second cooperating means being provided on said mounting and said frame for securing said mounting to said frame in use, said first and second cooperating means being operative when a force is applied tending to push the handle and the frame towards each other, the printing head holding frame having means to indicate the orientation thereof.
2. A stamping device as claimed in
Claim 1, wherein the mounting is made of rigid transparent material in the shape of a U, said second cooperating means including projecting hooks formed at the inner bottom end of the mounting and said first cooperating means including a vertical lug at the top of the mounting, the lug being conical in section and surrounded at the base by a crown ring forming a conical groove for interlocking,
3. A stamping device as claimed in
Claim 2, wherein the first cooperating means includes a tubular base formed on said handle, the tubular base being conical in section and provided with a slot to render the tubular base flexible.
4. A stamping device as claimed in
Claims 2 or 3, wherein the frame is in the shape of an inverted U with a middle reinforcing and indicator-positioning leg, the second cooperating means including two vertical side legs formed on the frame and having notches to cooperate with said hooks.
5. A stamping device as claimed in
Claim 2, 3 or 4, wherein the mounting and the frame are so dimensioned that, when fitted together, a horizontal top space and a vertical side space are defined, an indicator being provided to occupy this space in such a manner that it can be read from outside through the transparent mounting.
6. A stamping device as claimed in
Claim 4, wherein said legs include a bottom projection in the longitudinal plane forming a double shoulder for retaining a printing head.
