Abstract
A sterile toilet seat cover is a thin light sheet of material (4) rendered sterile moisture resistant and impervious to micro organisms capable of being packaged into a relatively small volume for carrying on the person. When opened out and placed on a toilet seat it forms a protective barrier between the seat and the user. A central portion (6) is weaked with perforations along three sides (5) so that before, or while, the user is seated a flap section of the cover may be easily pushed out by hand. The opening thus produced allows unimpeded urination and defaecation. The flap of material prevents genital contact with the seat or pedestal. After use the cover can be easily peeled from the seat by its overhanging periphery, which will not have been in contact with the toilet, and disposed of by flushing or placing in an appropriate receptacle. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATIQN
Disposable sterile toilet seat cover
This invention relates to a disposable toilet seat cover.
Public and communal toilet seats wherever located are always suspect on grounds or cleanliness and hygiene. The use of a disposable sterile cover, compact enough when packaged to be carried unobtrusively on the person or obtainable from a dispensing machine, will eliminate the risk of infection from a contaminated toilet seat.
According to the present invention the disposable seat cover consists of a flat sheet of impermeable material designed to be placed on the toilet seat prior to use to prevent direct contact between the user and the toilet seat. A partially removable central segment allows unimpeded excretion and prevents genital contact with the seat or pedestal.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows a plan view of the cover;
Figure 2 shows, in perspective, the cover before being placed on the toilet seat;
Figure 3 shows the cover in place with the perforated central flap segment pushed down and forward as it would be during use;
Referring to the drawings the disposable toilet seat cover comprises sterilised creped paper or man made material 4 rendered impermeable to moisture and micro organisms. The central part has a section with perforations along three sides 5 which allows a flap of the material 6 to be partially detached and pushed down and forward as illustrated in Fig. 3 to protect the user's gential region from contact with the seat and pedestal.
A weakly tacky coating on the under surface of the cover retains its position on the toilet seat by friction, while the inherent elasticity of the cover material allows it to assupe the shape of the user and toilet seat without tearing.
After use the cover is peeled from the toilet seat by its uncontaminated periphery and flushed or placed in a waste receptacle.
1. A disposable sterile toilet seat cover comprising a sheet of thin material rendered moisture resistant and impervious to micro organisms which when placed on a toilet seat maintains its position by friction and prevents direct physical contact between the user and the toilet.
2. A disposable sterile toilet seat cover as claimed in claim 1 wherein the underside of the cover is treated to enhance its temporary adherance to a smooth seat surface.
3. A disposable sterile toilet seat cover as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein a perforated central segment of the cover can be partially separated along three sides from the main body of the cover and swung downwards and forwards hinged at its non perforated forward end.
4. A disposable sterile toilet seat substantially as described herein with reference to
Figs. 1-3 of the accompanying drawings.
