Abstract
A light, compact motor-vehicle window-winder includes a drive shaft (8), rotated by means of a handle, and a cylindrical drum (1) with an external helical groove (2) for the window cable (13). The drive shaft extends through an annular drum core (4) within a cylindrical drum recess (3), and transmits drive to the drum via two cranked arms (7) carried by the shaft and located between two lugs projecting from the core. The lugs divide the recess into two symmetrical parts, and have end faces flush with a drum end face. A braking mechanism is also housed in the recess (3) and comprises a helical torsion spring (10) having ends bent inwardly one on either side of a said lug. When the drive shaft is turned in either sense, drive is transmitted through the arms (7), spring ends and lugs to rotate the drum, if the window is forced, the force is transmitted to the drum, to the lugs and to a bent spring and to increase drum braking. <IMAGE>
