Abstract

219,431. Pinson, J., and Smith, A. E. May 14, 1923. Wind-screens.-In a foldable windscreen, particularly for the rear-seats of motor-vehicles, adapted for adjustment towards or away from the passengers, the brackets supporting the screen a, Fig. 1, are pivotally mounted upon slides h which are adjustable along supporting-arms f pivoted to brackets c on the rear of the front seat or similar part of the vehicle so as to swing in a horizontal plane, each arm f being formed of two parallel spaced rods connected by end-pieces g. The slides h are preferably formed of upper and lower members embracing the arm f, Fig. 6, with a vertical pin j projecting from the lower member through the upper and being threaded at its upper end to receive a nut l. Also surrounding the pins j are lugs k<1> of the brackets k carrying the standards p of the screen a, the lugs having annular bosses m engaging complementary bosses on the upper portions of the slides h so that the slides h and brackets k are simultaneously locked on the arms f and on the slides h respectively when the nuts l are tightened. The brackets k may have an ordinary divided clip portion embracing the lower horizontal parts q of the standard p, or, as shown in Fig. 6, the bracket may have a slot t with seriated edges v engageable by serrations on a collar u carried by a stud s screwing into the pert q, either arrangement allowing the standards p to be fixed at any inclination or horizontally so that the screen may form a table.
