Abstract

A liquid including a freezing point depressant base material such as glycerol is foamed to produce a stable foam and applied as such to a surface to convey anti-icing protection or to de-ice. The foam resists run-off from inclined surfaces and resists dilution by incident moisture. A foam promoting surfactant is beneficial as is also a foam stabilizer such as methyl cellulose. The foam may be generated and dispensed from a conventional compressed air equipment or an aerosol canister according to application. The invention is especially directed to aircraft and automobile applications.
