Description
SPECIFICATION
A portable cassette type of reading device
Information industry has been classified by our government as one of the policy industries and the use of computer is the foundation of the information industry. In the foreseeable future, the utilization of computer will become a rather popular expression.
At the present time, computer has widely been used; especially, the micro-computer has almost been used in every field. According to the aforesaid tendency, the inventor has developed the present invention, i.e., a portable cassette type of reading devices, of which the dimensions are small, the operation is simple, the cost is low, and the function is reliable and satisfactory to the user; therefore, the present invention is acceptable to the public consumers.
The conventional books, magazines, and newspapers are generally printed and bound into volumes. They have a common disadvantages, i.e.
being susceptible to moisture and decomposition, having moreweight, taking longertimeandlaborto compile and to print, and taking more space; for instance, a student is usually required to carry a lot of books to go to school; a newsagent has to employ many persons to compile and to print a lot of newspapers, which are then discarded after being read. It is considered that the aforesaid situation can hardly meet the requirement of the computer era to come, and therefore a portable cassette type of reading device is developed.
This invention provides a reading device; particularly, a portable cassette type of reading device, of which the majorfeature is that the different volumes of data are to be stored in different memory cassettes; by mean of a selecting device according to the present invention, any memory cassette can be selected to read by a user. Any book and a given number of pages may also be keyed in the device, and the data on anypageofthebookcan be displayed with a large dot matrix liquid-crystal display module. Via an input terminal, any external data of a newspaper or magazine can be stored into the RAM, and the date sorted can be read by a user by operating the selecting keys on a keyboard or by moving a picture displayed on the display module for reading convenience.
The prime object of the present invention isto store the daily reading data such as books, or magazines, etc. into a memory cassette i.e. a ROM.
Afterthe memory cassette being mounted into the reading device according to the present invention, a user can read it any time by simply operating the reading device.
Another object of the present invention isto provide a standard connector with a socket, through which the external information (such as news, or technology reports, etc.) can be stored into RAM.
Afterthedata being read, theycan beclearnd immediately so asto increase the speed of news transmission without th rough the printing and other necessary processing steps.
When readers put the memory cassette into machine and press 'on' button, they can then see book outline or catalogue index on display module that can rightly show us which paragraph or page readers want to select by pushing button.
Readers can freely control characters backorforth.
If necessary, readers also can move characters from left to right or from right to left against different letters.
Readers can select slow, fast and fastest speed for shortread training, and enable reading guide lineto move on quickly or flip over automatically.
Readers can define the import part and are ableto review them after completion of reading.
This device can set up temporary stop for emergency during reading. After that readers can continue to read just by pressing temporary stop.
Device will show us red light or voice to warn readers to be concentrated, that is designed by connecting guide line with 'point'. Should readers do not press this point, it will be voiced for guard naturally.
Attimeofreading there have guide line to guide readers, which is controlled by readers or automatically lead by device itself. It can repeat lead on same line or make undefined lead to enlarge light to light up characters.
Device also can set uptime bygiving outwarning sound to remind readers with time spent. (set a 'timer' button)
This device can be played as electric toy if to be feel tired or necessary.
This portable cassette type of reading device can connect with home TV or school screen to be more helpful forteaching.
Others are removing troubles, operation and maintenance manuals.
Figure 7 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the portable cassette type of reading device according to the present invention.
Figure2 is a block diagram of the present invention shown in Figure 1.
The present invention is further described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings as follows:
Referring to Figure 1 ,there is shown a perspective view of an embodiment according to the present invention, which comprises a device body 1, a large dot matrix liquid-crystal display module 2, a keyboard 3, and plurality of memory cassette 4. On the device body 1, there are installed with a large dot matrix liquid-crystal display module 2 and a set of keyboard 3. The lower end of the device body 1 is furnished with six or more cassette chambers 5 for receiving the memory cassettes 4. The right side of the device body 1 is provided with a power input terminal 6 so as to connect an external power supply unit 7 to provide operation power and to provide power to charge the battery in the device. On the same side of the device body, there is also furnished with a terminal socket 8for receiving an external connector 9, through which the external information can be transmitted into the present invention. A user may select a memory cassette 4 required to insert into the cassette chambers 5; for example, the first memory cassette for national literature book 1 isto be inserted into the first cassette chamber; the second memory cassette for mathematics book 1 is tote inserted into the second cassette chamber; the third memory cassette for history book 1 is to be inserted intothethird cassette chamber; the fourth memory cassette for English book 1 is to be inserted into the fourth cassette chamber, and so on.When a user wants to read English book 1, he should push the selecting button "sel" first, and then push button "4" which designates the fourth cassette chamber.
Immediately, the display module 2 will show "English book 1 ",then, the user pushes "CAT", i.e., the contents ofthe book. Upon the book contents being displayed on the display module 2, the user may push the page button "Page" and the number thereof. Through the terminal socket 8 and the external connector9, news information may be stored into the device. The movable key 10 is used for moving a larger page longitudinally or horizontally in the display module for reading convenience.
Referring to Figure 2, there is shown a block diagram of the present invention, which comprises a MPU 14to provide arithmetic calculation and to control instructions and timing signal, an interface circuit 13 to provide interface operation forthe display module 2, a code circuit 15 to provide the selecting operation to various memory cassettes 4, an information transmission circuit 16 for storing the external information signal through thetermirial socket 8 and the external connector9, four cassette connecting terminals 17,18,19 and 20forconnection with the memory cassettes 4, a character generator 11 for generating characters according to the date from MPU 14, a RAM (random access memory unit2) for storing and reading outthe date at random, a keyboard 3 for keying date into the device, and a power supply unit 21 for carding power via the power input terminal 6 and the external power supply unit 7.
Summing up the aforesaid description, it is apparentthatthe present invention can fulfil the functions of a portable cassette type of reading device with a simple circuit structure, and therefore it is deemed a novel invention in terms of space utilization. The liquid crystal element to be used in the present invention is being developed and manufactured by an electronic laboratory.
The aforesaid description include the preferred embodiment of the present invention. Any person skilled in the art may change or modify the present invention in terms of the outer form of structure without deviating fro m the spirit th ereof.
However, the aforesaid drawings are merely used as the preferred embodiment of the present inventionwithoutbeing usedtolimitthepresent invention. Any simple or minor modification on the form, structure, features and spirit of the present invention by any person skilled in the art should be deemed being included in the scape of the claims of the present invention.
