Abstract
A card such as a greetings card has an aperture 7 in which a cup-shaped coin housing 6 is engaged, e.g. by means of a radial flange 9 near the base of the cup, and a radial flange 8 (or the edge 23 of a lid 18) near the mouth. The coin housing 6 has a mouth partly obstructed by a projection 10 (or closed by a lid 18) displaceable to permit the insertion or removal of a coin 5. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Coin-holding card
This invention is a device for holding one ora number of coins to a printed card.
Many people wish to give money in the form of a coin or coins as a gift. In order to make this more attractive it is desirable to be able to provide a device to attach such coins to a printed giftcard or greeting card in a position that relates to the design, picture or message on the card.
According to this invention there is provided a card assembly for holding a coin comprising a card having an aperture, and a coin housing member which comprises a plastics cup adapted to project through the aperture; the housing member having means for at least partly obstructing the cup mouth so that a coin is retainable therein; the obstructing means being displaceable to permit insertion and removal of a coin.
The cup, or cover, may be forced into or clipped to the card. It may be moulded from a plastic material or may be formed from a piece of sheet plastic. It may be shaped to cover one face and the edge of a coin. It may have a flange outward from its edge to prevent it from being forced completely through the aperture in the card. It may also be shaped so that part of the cover is in some part largerthan the aperture in the card. When such a cover is pushed into the aperture it will be gripped to the card between the part ofthe cover that is larger than the aperture and the flange. The inside of the plastic cover may have a rim or projections inward from the edge at the point at which the coin enters the cover making the opening in some partsmallerthanthe coin.When the coin is pressed into the cover it will be held in place by being forced past the rim or projections.
In an alternative form of construction the flange of the cover is fixed to the card with an adhesive. A cover so fixed may be made so that the part of the cover that projects through the aperture in the card need not be in some part larger than the aperture as previously described.
In a further type of embodiment, the mouth obstructing means comprise a lid releasably engageable with the cup. The two portions of the housing may each cover and enclose one face of a coin. The two parts of the container may fasten to each other by means of a pressure fit of one part over the other part or by a protrusion on one partfitting a cavity on the other part or one part may beturned over the other part in the manner of a screwthread.
The two parts of the container may be shaped to allow a piece of card to be gripped between them.
When being fastened to each other one part may be placed through an aperture in a printed card on which a design, picture or message has been printed on one or both sides. The second part may then be attached to thefirst part of the container from the opposite side ofthe card thugs holding the container in a fixed position on the card. Thus for use to hold a coin, the housing is opened and then closed holding the coin to the card in a position that relates to the design, picture or message printed on the card.
The giftcard or greeting card may be arranged to have one or more than one coin attached to it, with one or more than one cover for holding the coinsto the card, each in a position that relates to the design, picture or message printed on the card. A cover may also be made to hold more than one coin.
Some embodiments of this invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows a card 3 with an illustration 4 and a coin 5 held in a related position to the illustration 4 by a plastic cover 6 which has been forced through the aperture 7. The edge of the flange 8 is represented by the broken line and is on the inside ofthe card 3;
Figure 2 is a side view of a card 3 showing a plastic cover 6forced through the aperture7 in the card 3 and held between an outward projection 9 and flange 8.The coin 5 is held in place by a rim 10 that is in some partsmallerthanthecoin 5;
Figure 3shows the face of a card 13 of a second embodiment, the card carrying an illustration 14with a coin 15 held in a related position to the drawing 14 bythecontainer 16;
Figure 4 is a side view of a card 13 showing a coin 15 held between the first part ofthe container 17 and the second part of the container 18. The first part of the container 17 has an outward projection 19 over which the second part of the container 18 has been forced. The first part of the container 17 has been placed through the aperture 20 in the card 13 with the aperture's edge 21 held between the flanges 22 and 23.
In an alternative form of construction the two parts ofthe container may be moulded in a single piece with the two parts being hinged orjoined together.
1. Acard assembly for holding a coin comprising a card having an aperture, and a coin housing member which comprises a plastics cup adapted to project th rough the aperture; the housing member having means for at least partly obstructing the cup mouth so that a coin is retainable therein; the obstructing means being displaceableto permit insertion and removal of a coin.
2. A card assembly according to claim 1 wherein the housing member has formations for engaging the card on both sides around the aperture whereby the housing member is retainable to the card.
3. A card assembly according to claim 2wherein the housing member is a push-fit in the aperture.
4. A card assembly according to any preceding claim wherein the housing member is dimensioned to retain a British 1 coin snugly.
5. Acard assembly according to any preceding claim wherein the cup mouth is partially obstructed by a radially inwardly extending projection which is deformableto permit insertion and removal of a coin.
6. A card assembly according to any of claims 1 to 4wherein the mouth obstructing means comprise a lid releasably engageable with the cup.
7. A card assembly according to claim 6wherein
