Abstract

A belt orienting and tensioning device comprises a belt guide roller (3) mounted on a threaded bolt (2) which is arranged to be pivotable about an axis (4) and which is connected to an adjusting spindle (5) with a caged drive nut (6). Rotation of the nut drives the spindle and thereby pivots the bolt (2) carrying the roller. The axis (4) may be horizontal or vertical. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Equipment for orienting and tensioning a transport belt The present invention relates to a device for orienting and tensioning a transport belt in a machine, for example a book-binding machine with a transport belt which must be oriented to exact course.
For the orienting and tensioning of a transport belt, some ofthe associated belt rollers must be mounted to be movable and arranged to be settable. Hitherto, this was achieved by mounting the belt rollers on threaded bolts which were set obliquely and fixed in this setting through tightening of nuts. The oblique setting of the threaded bolt is compensated for, on tightening ofthe nut, by two spherical washers with associated ball socket. An exact setting, particularly at places without good access, was not possible, since the belt roller usually displaced on tightening of the nuts. Moreover, the orienting could be carried out only at standstill of the machine.
It would thus be desirable to provide means whereby a simple, exact setting of the belt roller may be possible with the machine running, especially by action at an accessible location.
According to the present invention, there is provided a device for orienting and tensioning a transport belt in a machine, comprising support means, an axle pin mounted on the support means to be pivotable about an axis, a belt guide roller mounted on the axle pin, a setting spindle operatively connected to the axle pin, and a caged drive nutthreadedly engaged with the spindle and rotationally displaceable to drive the spindle and thereby pivot the axle pin a bout said axis for adjustment of the axial setting of the roller.
The pivot axis, which can be in the form of a pin, can extend displaced in horizontal direction by up to 90".
With this device for the orienting and tensioning of the transport belts, the resetting of the roiler can be set exactly by a simple fixed spanner and with the machine running for better observation ofthe running accuracyofthe belt.
Embodiments of the invention will be now be more particularly described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure lisa view of a first device, with a horizontal pivot axis, embodying the invention; Figure2 is a view of a second device, with a vertical pivot axis, embodying the invention; and Figure 3 is a plan view of the device of Figure 2.
Referring now to the drawings, there is shown in Figure 1 a belt orienting and tensioning device comprising a belt roller3 mounted on a lever 1 by means of a threaded bolt 2. The bolt 2 is mounted on the lever 1 to be pivotable about a pivot axis 4 and is connected with a setting spindle 5. Threadedly engaged with the free end of the spindle 5 is a setting nut 6, which is guided in a fork 7. Corrugated lock washers 8 secure the nut 6 against self-rotation.
Through rotation of the nut 6 by a spanner, the bolt 2 with the roller 3 is pivoted about the axis 4.
Through this oblique adjusting of the roller 3, the transport belt course can be corrected with the associated machine running and the belt tension can be set exactly. An independent rotation of the nut 6 and thereby a change in the set belt course is excluded by the lockwashers8.
According to the installed position of the lever 1 relative to the belt course, the resettability of the roller3 longitudinally to the lever 1 (Figures 2 and 3) can be provided.
By this device, an exact belt course can be set over larger roller spacings. The belt course can be corrected even in the case of inaccurately connected belts. The easy manipulation of the setting nut and the time-saving resulting therefrom are further advantages.
