Abstract

Templets. - In electric conductors insulated with gutta percha the insulation at joints and repaired places is made good by applying heated gutta percha at one end of the part and distributing it over the whole region by heated dies or rollers. A machine for drawing the material over a joint is shown in Fig. 1 and comprises interchangeable divided bushes g for clamping the conductor and a divided die i provided with an interchangeable bush, which is previously heated and may be drawn over the conductor or joint along guides h by knobs m. Fig. 4 shows a machine for distributing the insulating material by rolling. Two profiled rollers p are carried by guides q along the conductor joint and rollers at the sides prevent lateral spreading of the insulation. Gears s engaging racks r turn the rollers p. The cable is clamped in grippers o.
