Abstract
A container for coins, notes etc. is in the form of a combined wallet and purse with the purse part having a front portion (11), a rear portion (14), side portions (15, 16) and a flap (17). At the side of the rear portion remote from the purse part are formed various compartments by means of pieces of material which are secured together by stitching to form a common composite edge which is tightly received in an inverted metal channel-shaped frame simulating element (29). The element (29) provides rigidity and enhanced appearance without increasing the weight of the container by any significant amount. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Container For Coins, Notes etc.
This invention relates to a container for coins, notes etc., particularly in the form of a combined purse and wallet, the purse being intended to receive coins and the wallet having compartments for notes, credit cards and the like.
Containers of this type are known which are formed with a square or rectangular metal frame to which the material, usually leather or plastics, is secured. The frame is often formed of two hinged parts which are normally retained together, but which are separable to allow access to the purse part of the container. In many instances, however, the frame adds substantial, undesirable weight to the container and detracts from its appearance.
Frameless containers of this type are also known, but suffer from a lack of rigidity with the resultant loss of shape.
The object of the invention is to provide a container for coins, notes etc. in a convenient manner.
According to the invention a container for coins, notes etc. comprises a compartment formed with front and rear portions connected by side portions, the compartment being closed at one end, a flap releasably engageable with said front portion to close the compartment, and said rear portion at its end remote from the closed end of the compartment having a frame simulating element.
Preferably said frame simulating element is a metal channel-section which receives aligned edges of the rear portion and the flap.
The invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a front view of a container of the invention with a purse partthereof in a closed position,
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the container of
Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a view of one side of the container of
Figure 1,
Figure 4 is a front perspective view with the purse part shown in an open position,
Figure 5 is a rear perspective view with a wallet part of the container shown in an open position and the purse part closed,
Figure 6 is a view of one side of an alternative form of container, with both its purse and wallet parts closed,
Figure 7 is a front perspective view of the container of Figure 6, with the purse part open, and
Figure 8 is a rear perspective view with the wallet part open and the purse part closed.
A first embodiment of the container is shown in
Figures 1 to 5. The container is preferably formed substantially of leather, but plastics material or any suitable fabric could be used in addition or as an alternative. The container is in the form of a combined wallet and purse, an openable and closeable purse part being provided at the front and an openable and closeable wallet part being provided at the rear. The pieces of material making up the container are secured together by stitching.
The container has a rectangular piece of material 10 which is folded transversely to provide a front part 11 and a slightly longer rear part 12. The part 11 constitutes the front portion of the purse part of the container.
The rear of the purse part is formed by part of a rectangular piece of material 13 which, like the piece 10 is unequally, transversely folded. The shorter folded part is secured to one face of the front part 11 to form a composite purse front portion, and secured between this composite front portion and the longer folded part 14, which forms the rear portion of the purse part, are two generally triangular pieces of material 15, 16 which form opposite foldable sides of the purse part respectively.
By unfolding the sides of the purse part, the folded material 13 also opens out somewhat to form the interior surface of the purse part as shown best in Figure 4.
The part 14 extends beyond the part 11 and sides 15,16, and has stitched to italong its free edge a rectangular flap 17 which can be pivoted about its fold line 18 to close the purse part when the sides 15, 16 are folded inwardly. The flap and front part 11 have interengageable parts 1 la, 17a, of a press stud connection to secure the flap to the part 11. Figures 1 to 3 and 5 show the purse part closed by the flap.
Secured to the rear of the part 14, i.e. at the opposite face thereof to that forming the purse interior, is a piece of material 19 which is of the same size as the piece 10. This material extends over the rear of the part 14 and also over the part 12 and is secured to these two parts by stitching around its perimeter. The material piece 19 can be provided with a flap 19a if required.
Afurther rectangular piece of material 20 is provided to lie over the material 19. However the material 20 is less wide than the material 19 so that its longitudinal edge 21 lies inward from the adjacent longitudinal edge of the wallet part, as shown in Figure 5, this edge 21 alone not being secured to the material 19. A compartment intended for monetary notes is thus provided between these two pieces of material 19 and 20.
A still further rectangular piece of material 22 is provided to lie over the material 20. The material 22 is less wide than the piece of material 19 and its longitudinal edge 23 lies inward of the edge 21, the other edges of the material 22 being secured by stitching 24 to the material 19,20, flap 17 and part 12. As the edge 23 is not stitched, there is formed a further note compartment between the material 20 and 22. Elements 25, 26 of a further press stud fastening are secured to opposite ends of the material 22, so that when the wallet part is folded along the co-incident transverse folds of the material 10, 19,20 and 21, the two wallet flaps so formed can be releasably secured together, with the folded wallet part matching the shape and size of the purse part, as shown in Figures 1,3 and 4.
As described, the flap 17, part 14, material 19, material 20, and material 21 are all stitched together along a respective common edge, denoted by 27, and this edge provides a thickness which is tightly received in a metallic inverted channel or generally
U-shaped element 28. The element 28 extends along substantially the whole length of the edge and can be provided with a material cover as indicated at 29.
The element 28 thus simulates a frame of the container, and in particular of the purse part, and provides strengthening without increasing the weight substantially. It also provides a pleasing appearance for the container.
The container shown in Figures 6 to 8, is of similar construction to that described and the same numerals have been used for like parts. The only difference is that instead of the compartments provided by the material 20 and 22, only a single compartment is provided by way of the material 20.
Moreover on its outwardly facing surface, the material 20 has secured thereto rectangular material pieces 30,31, which are the same width as the material 20 and have their respective transverse edges 32,33 adjacent the wallet part fold line, open, to form a pair of further compartments. Moreover the material 31 is provided with pockets 34, for credit cards and the like, which pockets are open along edges 35 at right angles to the edges 32,33.
The material pieces 30,31 carry the press stud elements 25,26 respectively.
The frame simulating element 27 thus tightly encloses the common edge 27 formed by flap 17, gart 14, material 19,.20 and material piece 30.
