Abstract

The doubile rotation hinge, in handed pairs, for windows, provides ventilation by one rotation and fire escape and an easy clean action in the second rotation. The sash movements of the first and second rotations are governed by the movement of the sash guide pin part 4 of the sash plate part 3 along the guide slot part 5 on the case plate part 1, during the first and second rotations. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Doubile rotation hinge This invention relates two a doubile rotation window hinge.
Window design requires to have certain features, to meet requirements of, appearance, fire escape, easy clean and ease of action. All these features are controled by the hingetyp.
The appearance should betraditional sothatthe finished article should blend in and not look out of place in the building. Forfire escape, the sash when fully open should leave as large an exit as possible and be free of obstructions. In the easy ciean a rotateing sash or a sash that in the opening action movesawayformthehing side, to al low the occupants ofthe building a method of cleaning the outside of the window sash, an important feature is thatthe sash not beto larg and so not be yond the reach of the occupants for cleaning. Ease of action, is that the action of the window is such that the sash will perform all the necessary movments with ease, irrespective of wait or size ofthe sash.
This invention is for a hing of a pairedtypfora window with atraditional side hung appearance, in the first rotation the sash opens with a traditional side hung action, giving ventilateation and good fire escape potential when the sash isfullyopen. In the second rotation when the sash is fully open the hing side can then be slid into the center section ofthe opening, by this rotation good access is given for easy cleaning. Throughout all the rotations and actions the sash wait is supported bythe hing irrespactive of size orwait.
The following paragraphs referto a description of the doubile rotation hinge and all actions ofthe hinge with reference to the accompanying drawings.

CLAIMS
1. Thatthe double rotation hingewhenfited to a window, givesawindowwithatraditional appearance and a traditional action for ventilateation purposes.
2. The traditional aspectsofclame 1 along with a fire rscape action.
3. Along with the aspects of dame 1 and 2 a second rotation for an easy cleen action, when the sash has been fully opened.
4. The previous claims of claim land claim 3,for the hinge when fitted in atop hung action, with now the dead load ofthe sash being carried by the rotashion plate (2) in a hanging action.
4. Along with clams 1,2, and 3 a sash that is self supporting giving ease of action in opening, closing and easy cleaning actions.
5. All clams 1,2,3 and 4forthe doubile rotation hingeforsashs in a side hung operation.
6. Clames 1 and 3forthe doubile rotation hinge forsashs in atop hung operation.
Superseded claims 1 -6 New or amended claims: CLAIMS
1. The double rotation hinge of paired type, for fitment into a traditional style window in a side hung action. The hinge comprising ofthree metal plates, the case plate (1)attachsthehingetothewindow case, the sash plate (3) which attchs the hinge mechanism to the window sash, the rotation plate (2) attachsthe sash plate (3) and the case plate (1 ) togetherthrough the points of rotation (7). All movements of the hinge mechanism are governed by the movement ofthe gide pin (4) along the gide trench (5).The movement ofthefirst rotation allows the sash to be opened outward in a traditional manner, during this movementthegidepin (4) follows the arkofthe gidetrench (5), during thefirst rotation, the rotation plate (2) and the sash plate (3) are interlocked together and prevented from separating by the gide pin (4) in the gidetrench (5).
During this opening action the hinge edge ofwindow sash is kept close to the edge of the window case, this allowsforfull ventilation and a maxim fire escape potential through the window. In the second rotationthegide pin (4)followsthestraighttrenchof the gide trench (51 this allows the rotation plate (2) and the sash plate (3) to separate. This action brings thefarthestedgeofthewindowsasharoundand inward towards the window case, whilst creating an opening through which the outer surface of the window sash can be cleaned from within.
2. The hinge actions claimed in claim 1, for a side hung sash in which the dead load of the sash is trandfered directfrom the sash down to the sash plate (3) down onto the case plate (1 ) by direct contact, the load isthen transfered down through the case plate (1 ) to the window case. By this featurethe load is transfered giving ease of action throughout all movements ofthe sash and prevents sash droop in these actions.
3. All claimed in claims 1 and2,withalsothe aspect of clearance spaces (6) foremed by the hinge.
These clearances are the differential in size between the case plate (1) and the sash plate (3) as seen when the hinge is in a closed position. The case plate (1) hinge end internal corner which is set into the window case in the corner of a traditional window case, with the sash plate (3) internal hinge side corner being fitted to that of the internal hinge side corner ofthetraditional sash. Which gives the clearance spaces (6) between that of the window case and the window sash .
