Abstract

A cosmetic case 1 is provided in which the top 2 and bottom 3 portions are hinged together in such away as to form a hinge recess 6 adapted to receive one or more batteries 7 and associated circuitry for operating a light 11 or fan. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Cosmetic cases The present invention relates to cosmetic cases and in particularto portable cosmetic cases.
Cosmetic cases are known which include for example a mirror and a light to illuminate the mirrororafan to provide meansto dry nail varnish appliedtothe nails. As such cosmetic cases are portable, the power forthe lightorfan must be provided by one or more batteries. Presently known cosmetic cases are cum- bersome because provision has to be made to accom modatethe batteries.
We have sought two overcome the problems associated with known portable cosmetic cases.
Accordingly, the present invention provides a case comprising a base in the form of a tray and atop in the form of a lid, the base being hinged to the top such that the hinge forms a recess adapted to receive one or more batteries and associated circuitry.
The top of the case may be provided with a mirror and/or light, the light being powered by batteries located in the hinge. Alternatively the top of the case may be provided with a fan powered by batteries located in the hinge. In this case it is preferred that the top ofthe case be hinged so that the airflewfromthe fan can be directed onto the nails at any desired angle.
In a preferred emboidment, the hinge is formed in two parts with the first part being an integrally moulded extension of the base provided with a sub stantiallyupstanding portion and the second part being an integrally moulded extension ofthe top provided with a substantially downwardly depending portion. Thetwo parts ofthe hingecan be joined together by means of friction plates provided in the two hinge parts which permitthetwo parts ofthecase to remain stationary relevantto one another atwhat- everangletheyare positioned -this ensures that when the case is opened the top part does not close onto the bottom part unless manually madeto do so, thus facilitating use of the case.
Ifthe case is provided with a light, a movabie diffuser plate may be provided to permitthe intensity ofthe lightto be modified.
In a preferred embodiment, the means to switch the light or fan on and off is a slide switch located within the hinged portion.
A battery recharge jack point may be provided.
The advantage of the case of the present invention is that by using the space available in the hinge to house batteries and associated circuitry, a morecompact case can be provided.
The present invention is further illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein: Figure lisa perspective view of one embodiment of a cosmetic case in accordance with the present invention in the open position; Figure2 shows the internal side of one edge ofthe top part of the cosmetic case of Figure 1; Figure 3fO 1 shows the external side ofone edge of the bottom part of the cosmetic case of Figure 1; Figure 4 is a cross-section through the cosmetic case of Figure land Figure 5 is a perspective view of another embodiment of a cosmetic case in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 1 shows a cosmetic case shown generally as 1 which comprises a top 2 and a base 3. Top 2 is provided with an integral extended portion 4which, when hinged to an integral extended portion 5 of the base 3, forms a recess 6 which can accommodate batteries 7 and associated circuitry covered by a cov erplate8 incorporating an on/offswitch 9. In use, the batteries 7 are also covered by a cover plate 15 shown in Figure 4. The cosmetic case 1 is provided with a mirror 10 and a light 11 powered bythe batteries 7.
The light 11 may be covered by a diffuser (not shown) which is madeto cover the light 11 by rotating either of switches 12.
As shown in Figures 2 and 3, the hinge partoftop 2 and the hinge part of base 3 are provided with friction plates 13 and 14, respectively. Thesefriction plates 13 and 14contactone another when the top 2 is hinged to the base 3 so that in use they permitthe cosmetic case 1 to remain open atanyangle.
Figure 5 shows a cosmetic case shown generally at 21 which comprises atop 22 and a base 23. Thetop 22 is hinged at29 and one half30 ofthetop 22 is provided with a battery driven fan 31.
The base 23 is provided with an integral extended portion 24which when hinged to an integral extended portion (not shown) of the top 22 forms a recess 25 which can accommodate batteries 26 and associated circuitry covered by a cover plate 27 incorporating an on/off switch 28. In use the batteries 26 are also covered by a cover plate (not shown).
1. A case comprising a base in the form ofatray and a top in the form of lid, the base being hinged to the top such that the hinge forms a hinge recess adapted to receive one or more batteries and associated circuitry.
2. A case as claimed in claim 1, in which the hinge is formed in two parts with the first part being an integrally moulded extension of the base provided with a substantially upstanding portion and the second part being an integrally moulded extension of the base provided with a substantially downwardly depending portion.
3. A case as claimed in claim 2, in which each side of each hinge part is provided with a friction plate such that each friction plate of the top contacts the corresponding friction plate of the base to that the two hinge parts remain stationary at whatever angle they are positioned relative to one another.
4. A case as claimed in any ofclaims 1 to 3, in which the top is provided with a mirror and a light, the light being powered by batteries located in the hinge recess.
5. A case as claimed in any of claims 1 to 3, in which the top is provided with a fan, the fan being powered by batteries located in the hinge recess.
6. Acase as claimed in claim 5, in which the top is hinged so that airflowfromthe fan can be directed at any angle.
