Abstract

Drying-apparatus. - Kinematograph films and similar materials are freed from surface water after liquid treatment by squeegee action but without mechanical contact by projecting air at high-velocity upon their surfaces in a direction partially or wholly in opto that of the film movement.. As shown in Figs. and 2, the film a is passed through a tube b having guides c and openings near one end through, which pass nozzles f, g, having one or more discharge, openings, which project jets of compressed air upon the film surfaces, and blow surface liquid therefrom through side apertures h in the tube, whence it is conducted by side tubes into containers. The film driving-sprocket d may be driven through a friction drive by an air turbine. In one modification, the tube b is replaced by an open guide frame, and the jets may be inclined to the direction of film movement. In a further modification, staggered nozzles are employed which have discharge slots extending across the film, and may be inclined to the surface of the film as well as to the direction of movement.
