Abstract

Tiles are placed into the box face side down, the adhesive applied, and the tiles removed by pushing through the holes in the base. The tiles can then be applied. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Tileaid This invention relates to a TILEAID.
This invention provides an aid to wall and floor tiling.
The TILEAID DEVICE provides the tiler with a tool to determine the exact amount of adhesive to be applied to each tile, ensuring even coating over the total area of tile, avoiding the deposit of adhesive to the face of the tile.
Tiling adhesive is relatively expensive and the use of the TILEAID avoids the waste of this expensive adhesive.
The accompanying drawing indicates the TI LEAlD in isometric projection Figure 1; plan Figure 2; and section Figure 3.
The drawing indicates an aluminium box (A) with a handle (B). The internal dimensions of the box are 8'/16"X81/,6"X'/2" deep although it is possible for the box to be made to suit tiles of other dimensions.
The box has four holes (C) drilled into the base.
The tile 8"X8", two tiles 8"X4", or four tiles 4"X4" are placed in the box face side downwards.
The thickness of the tile determines the number of packing pieces to be used, e.g. a tile 3/S" thick requires no packing pieces, a tile of 1/4" thick requires a 1/8" thick packing piece. The adhesive is then applied to the tile to ensure complete coverage.
Excess adhesive is scrapped off with a straight edge and returned to the container.
The tile or tiles can then be removed from box by inserting a finger or fingers into the holes at the base of the TILEAID and the tiles placed in position on the floor or wall without handling the adhesive.
1. A TILEAID comprises a box fitted with a handle into which tiles are placed to enable adhesive to be applied to a pre-determined thickness, to ensure a full even coating of adhesive, without the possibility of the adhesive being deposited on the face of the tile.
2. The TILEAID method of application of adhesive ensures full adhesion to the substrate.
3. The TILEAID method ensures that the surplus adhesive can be replaced into the container.
4. The adhesives used for tile fixing are relatively expensive. The use of a TILEAID will reflect a saving in the amount of adhesive used when tiling.
