Abstract

A wristwatch has a movement (2) hermetically sealed in a rubber or plastics pocket (1), within a case (3). <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Wristwatch This invention relates to a waterproof wristwatch.
Such wristwatches are known having waterproof means, e.g. a unit of at least one rubber ring, which seals the watch case around the watch movement. The watch case and its cover are thus waterproof in themselves. But, this is not able to provide a secure hermetic seal around a projecting part, such as a stop watch button, without interfering with the smooth action of the watch function. Moreover, when opening and closing the watch case the rubber ring is liable to tear whereby the waterproofing is impaired.
According to the invention, a wristwatch has a waterproof pocket of rubber or plastics material which receives and hermetically seals a watch movement.
The pocket may also provide vibration proofing of the watch movement.
An example of a wristwatch constructed in accordance with the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a exploded perspective view of the wristwatch; and, Figure 2 is a vertical section through the wristwatch.
The illustrated wristwatch has a waterproof pocket 1 of insulating material such as a plastics or rubber to wrap the watch movement within an outer case 3. The pocket 1 can be partly cut for fitting around a projecting part such as a dial or stop-watch button.
Therefore, in a digital watch the movement is wholly wrapped and bonded to keep it airtight by the waterproof pocket 1. If there is a projecting part on the movement 2, the waterproof pocket 1 should be cut and the cut portion tightly sealed by a bonding agent forming an attaching portion 4 on the projecting part of the movement 2. Even if the movement 2 is wrapped and has a stopwatch button or other projecting part, the button can be operated by a force applied through the waterproof pocket 1 to operate the button.
Therefore, the watch button is able to be operated for control of the watch functions whilst remaining waterproof and vibration proof.
By use of the waterproof pocket, the movement of a wristwatch is tightly sealed and accordingly there can be obtained a perfect waterproofing which is not affected by opening and shutting of the watch case.
1. A wristwatch having a waterproof pocket of rubber or plastics material which receives and hermetically seals a watch movement.
2. A wristwatch, substantially as described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
