Description

SPECIFICATION Adjustable roof-passage The invention relates to an adjustable roofpassage including a lower part to be connected to a roof and an upper part that joins the lower part according to the curved surface of a body of revolution and is hingedly connected to said lower part and is provided with a lower pipe section extending below said lower part.
According to a known roof-passage of this type the position of the upper part relative to the lower part is fixed by fastening the upper part to the roof-boarding by means of fastening means, wherein the lower part also has a fixed position relative to said roof-boarding.
However, this known roof-passage cannot be applied to roofs without a roof-boarding, for in this case it is not possible to fix the upper part relative to the lower part.
The invention intends to provide an adjustable roof-passage of the type mentioned before, that can be applied more universally.
Therefore the adjustable roof-passage according to the invention is characterized in that on said lower pipe section at least one circle segment is provided extending perpendicularly to the hinge-axis, and having its centre coinciding with said hinge-axis and positioned in a plane that extends substantially through the centre line of the lower pipe section, wherein the lower part is provided with a locking means that co-operates with said circle segment.
Thus this roof-passage as such can be applied to roofs without a roof-boarding. Moreover the fixation of the position of the upper part relative to the lower part can already be carried out before the roof-passage is placed on the roof.
In a preferred embodiment of the roof-passage according to the invention the locking means is movable between a first position in which it is out of engagement with the corresponding circle segment and a second position in which it co-operates with said circle segment for locking the upper part relative to the lower part.
In the first position of the locking means the upper part can easily be adjusted relative to the lower part, while in the second position of the locking means an undesired adjustment is effectively prevented.
In an advantageous way according to the invention said (each) circle segment can be provided with an angular scale division.
If the roof-slope is known this scale division allows an easy and fast adjustment of the correct position of the upper part relative to the lower part.
The invention will hereafter be explained further by means of the drawing, in which an embodiment of the roof-passage according to the invention is shown.
Figure 1 shows a side elevational view of an embodiment of the roof-passage according to the invention, and Figure 2 shows on a larger scale a section according to line ll-ll in Fig. 1.
The adjustable roof-passage 1 as shown in Fig. 1 comprises a lower part 2, that can be connected to a roof. This lower part 2 is generally formed as a roof-tile, so that the roof-passage 1 can easily be installed on a roof. The lower part 2 is at its upper side provided with a dome 3, of which the curved surface forms a part of a body of revolution.
A cap 4, that forms a portion of the upper part 5 joins the dome 3. In the shown embodiment this upper part 5 consists of a tubular body and for example can function as a discharge for vapours or as a passage means for an antenna or the like.
The upper part 5 by means of an only schematically represented hinge-axis 6 is hingedly connected to the lower part 2. As a result of this hinge-axis 6 and the shape of the dome 3 and the cap 4 co-operating herewith the position of the upper part 5 relative to the lower part 2 can be adjusted. The asymmetrical shape of the cap 4 makes it possible to cover a large range of relative angular positions between the upper part 5 and the lower part 2 by means of an invention of the upper part 5 relative to the lower part 2. An abutment means 18 prevents the upper part 5 from being rotated too far relative to the lower part 2.
A lower pipe section 7 joins the upper parts 5 and extends below the lower part 2. On this pipe section 7 two circle segments 8 and 9 are provided. These circle segments 8, 9 extending perpendicularly to the hinge-axis 6, while their centre coincides with this hingeaxis 6. Moreover, both circle segments 8, 9 are positioned in a plane that extends substantially through the centre line of the pipe section 7.
The lower part 2 is provided with a locking means 10 co-operating with the circle segment 8. The other circle segment 9 being positioned at the opposite side of the pipe section 7 therefore is not near such a locking means 10. However, if, as explained above, the upper part 5 will be inverted relative to the lower part 2, the circle segment 9 will cooperate with the locking means 10, while the circle segment 8 in such a case will be ineffective.
Both circle segments 8, 9 are provided with indentations that can co-operate with corresponding indentations of the locking means 10. As clearly appears from Fig. 2 the indentation 11 of the circle segment 8 (and in the same way of the circle segment 9) is provided in two facing ring surface portions joining the circumferential edge of the circle segment 8 (or 9, respectively).
The locking means 10 consists of a locking block 13 being slidable to and fro along a guide 12 and having opposite facing identations 15 at its end 14 that faces the corresponding circle segment 8 (or 9, respectively).
The locking block 13 is movable between a first position, in which it is out of engagement with the corresponding circle segment 8 or 9, respectively, and a second position, in which it co-operates with this circle segment 8 (Fig.
1) or 9, respectively, for locking the upper part 5 relative to the lower part 2, For facilitating the to and fro movement of the locking block 13 this locking block 13 is provided with at least one projecting edge portion 16 that only functions to enhance the hold.
In a way not further shown in detail the locking block 13 and/or the guide 12 can be provided with means for positioning the locking block 13 in the first and in the second position. Thus, it is prevented that, at one hand, starting from the first position of the locking block 13 this locking block 13 can slide off from the guide 12 and in this way can become lost, and at the other hand that starting from the second position of the locking block 13 the locking of the upper part 5 to the lower part 2 can be released unwantedly.
Finally, the circle segments 8, 9 are, as appears from Fig. 1, provided with a scale division 17, for example an angular scale division, with which the upper part 5, before installing the roof-passage 1 on the roof, can be given the correct position relative to the lower part 2.
The invention is not restricted to the embodiment shown in the drawing, but can be varied widely within the scope of the invention.
