Abstract

The cockspur-type window/door fastening shown in Figure A has a pivotable handle which can be used in the normal way to engage or disengage the bolt but is able to pivot and change plane to enable it to locate a lug on the frame within a slot defined by the handle to become a retaining device which limits the extent to which the window/door can be opened and which can only be released from the inside. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Window/door latch lock This invention relates to a window or door Latch/Lock.
The standard window latch is basically a lever which in turn pushes a bar into a metal plate creating a lock between the window and door frame. The basic latch operates in one plane only, its only function is to lock and unlock.
The new window latch, which can also be used on a door enables the window/door to be locked using a locking pin, when released the window/door latch acts as a normal lever latch in releasing the window/door. However, the design of the lever bolt enables the lever to change its plane and fall across a locking pin, making the window/door impossible to release when open.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure A shows a window/door in the locked position using the lever bolt and a secondary device to stop the lever being activated. This second device is a retained thread turned by an allen key.
Figure B shows the secondary locking device removed and the latch used in the normal way.
Figure C shows the basic invention, the ability of the lever to pivot and change plane and move over a locking pin.
Figure D shows the retaining pin holding the catch and the window/door being opened.
The only way the window/door can be opened fully or entry gained is to close the window/door and release the catch from the inside. The length of the lever arm could be extended for various ventilation widths and uses.
1. The window/door latch comprising of a standard pivot action, has the ability, when opened in the conventional way, to pivot horizontally and form a locking stay in conjunction with a frame mounted locking plate.
2. Due to the sliding action of the latch, as claimed in claim 1, it permits the window/ door to be opened fully only from the inside, when the window/door is in the closed position.
3. The window/door latch as claimed in claim 1, and claim 2 has secondary locking device, for use when the window/door is closed.
