Abstract

The rim, especially for tapered bead seat tyres of motor vehicles, comprises a side ring (1) with bead seat (7) and a base rim (6) which are locked together radially and axially. The side ring (1) is split at (13) to facilitate assembly. A cover ring (10) may be provided against dirt. The tyre (8) may be closed in its inner part e.g. by foil (16) which may be glued to the tyre. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Rim for pneumatic tyres of vehicles Subject of the invention is a rim of two or more parts especially for tapered bead seat tyres of motor vehicles consisting of at least two elements, which are preferably placed working into each other on spots distributed around the perimeter of the rim in axial direction, whereby these spots cover a certain angle section of the rim, whereby by the mutual, preferably covering one angle section of the rim, moving of these two elements a locking respectively loosening of the elements will be obtained, whereby means are designed to secure said locking, whereby a radial and axial locking, whereby a radial and axial, preferably stretching about 360 degrees of the rim support for the tyre in the lockable section of the rim in one piece is achieved.
Such rims are known as from Austrian Patent Specification 187.810. There a rim is described where the lockring 2 with the usual steel tapered bead seat is fixed in its perimeter. Therefore an exact seat to the rim base 15 is impossible as naturally tolerances for mounting and dismantling are necessary.
According to the invention it is suggested to provide a lock ring at above rim, which is slotted to obtain a true seat on the base rim.
According to the invention it is suggested to use a cover at above rim, which stretches preferably about 360 degrees of the rim in order to protect the contact surfaces of the mentioned two elements against dirt, etc. Such a protection, a cover, is disadvantageous for constructions according to Austrian Patent Specification 187.810 as with the sedimented dirt the allowance of the lock rings 2 and 11 with base rim 15 levels out.
In US Patent No. 1 223 635 rims are described, the mounting and dismantling of which is very difficult, as the contact surfaces of the single parts of the rim are very extensive and due to that cramp on many spots as a lock piece is fixed in its perimeter, from which a very difficult joining of the pieces results.
According to the invention it is further suggested to have a lock of the named spots stretched for more than an interspace of these spots respectively for more than one spot.
Part of the invention is that these locks are in a connected form. These locks can also be connected in one piece with the indicated support and/or cover.
Further details of the invention will be described with drawings. These show: Figure 1 Horizontal view of the construction of the rim according to the invention Figure 2 The same in cross-section Figure 3 In profile according to A-A of Figure 1 Figure 4 In profile according to B-B of Figure 2, but turned for 90 degrees, further formations.
Side ring 1 of Figure 1 has the known recesses 2 and extensions 3, which with the respective recesses 4 and extensions 5 catch the base rim 6.
Side ring 1 is further connected in one piece with steel tapered bead seat 7, the radial support for tyre 8. Finally side part 1 and according to that also bead seat 7 is slotted, that means it shows a slot 13, so that it can easily be slided about base rim 6 respectively in the perimeter direction.
At the same time the margin of side ring 1 to base rim 6 will be practically zero, if the tyre is blown up and supported by bead seat 7.
At the extensions 3 of side ring 1, buffers 9 Figure 3 - are arranged, so that after placing them at base rim 6 the buffers 9 pointing into axial direction form a buffer for side ring 1 in one perimeter direction.
As Figure 4 shows, an extension 3 is provided with two buffers 9, that means in perimeter direction of side ring 1 on both ends of a single buffer 3, which make a good catching of side part 1 with the base rim 6 possible.
Figures 2 and 4 show a cover ring 10 by which extensions 3 and 5 and the spaces respectively are covered from dirt, etc. Cover ring 10 can be fixed in different ways.
Instead of strengthening all or only a few buffers 9 or the catching of side part 1 and base rim 6, block parts 11 connected in one piece with cover ring 10 will be designed as shown in Figure 4, which shows the rim according to the invention in a closed condition.
In Figure 4 it is also suggested to construct the contact surfaces of buffers 9 and locks 11 inclined, that means that the retaining haunches do not go in a right angle to the axial direction of the rim.
The fixing of cover ring 10 can be done by a few springs 12 spread on its perimeter, which can put pressure on side ring 1 respectively its recess 2 can put radial pressure towards outside and thus catching the cover ring 10 is held. Cover ring 10 can have another kind of snap, even a (decorative) hub cap can take over its function.
It is further possible to provide side part 1 with 2 drillings 14 and 15, into which a clamp or something similar can be inserted or - similar to the lock bodies 11 or the spring 12 - extensions of cover ring 10, through which side part 1 is held, as an increase of its perimeter is avoided by that, but a shortening of the perimeter must be possible by providing an allowance.
Tyre 8 should be closed in its inner part, e.g. by foil 16, which at least partly, e.g. by gluing is fixed to tyre 8. Foil 16 which - seen in axial direction can be of different thickness, as in the area where tapered bead seat 7 touches base rim 6, should also contain the valve. Due to that even from tyres with very bad closings, e.g. with damaged rims or with indentation in corners, air cannot escape. Foil 16 can also be used advantageous for other rims.
Due to the invention it is now possible to mount respectively dismantle a tyre from a rim very easily and due to that very fast without any devices.
As mentioned in this invention the lock of side part 1 is very manifold. So can this and each single extension 3 respectively have none, one or more than one buffers 9. At the same time cover ring 10 can also have no lock bodies 11. Further an inclin ing construction of the contact surfaces of the catching parts, which produces an automatic lock, as e.g. buffer 9 and lock body 11, as shown in- Figure 4 can be abandoned, but can be constructed straight as in Figure 3.
