Abstract

A display pack e.g. for a pair of headlamps (3) comprises a box (1) which has windows (4) in which the respective headlamps are visible, enclosed in transparent wrappings or casings (2). The wrappings are disposed within and are fixedly held by the box. Each headlamp can be seen in its full extent from the outside because the box windows each extend over a portion of two adjacent lateral faces of the box which correspond in width, height and depth to the headlamp mounted in its transparent wrapping. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Display pack for goods, e.g. for motor vehicle parts such as a pair of headlamps The invention retates to a pack for goods, e.g. for motor vehicle accessory parts, particularly for a pair of headlamps, consisting of a box which comprises a window or opening in which the goods can be seen in a transparent covering.

Such display packs for a motorvehicle headlamp commonly comprise a box of cardboard, the cover of the box having a window provided with a transparent covering. The headlamp can only be appraised from the front or from the back through such a window. In order to see the full extent of the headlamp, it must be removed from the box. As a result of frequent opening of the box and/or improper removal of the headlamp from the box, both the box and the headlamp may be damaged. In addition, bright surfaces of the headlamp and of its accessory parts become matt and unsightly as a result of finger-prints. In addition, there is a risk of corrosion from finger-prints.

A display pack is provided according to the present invention comprising a box having at least one opening or window to show the pack goods, and wherein at least one transparent wrapping or casing is provided for the goods, the transparent wrapping is disposed in said at least one opening orwindowto be held in a fixed position in the box, and said at least one window of the box extends over a portion of two adjacent lateral faces of the box and is at least substantially equal in width, height and depth to the goods in the transparent wrapping.

In this way it is possible to display goods so that they can be seen from more than one direction while protecting them is a pack that can be very simple and economical to produce. If a pair of articles, such as two headlamps, are to both be displayed in the pack, preferably they are contained each in their own transparent wrapping or casing and the pack has respective openings or windows at diagonally opposite edges of the box with an article visible through each of them. In such a pack for a pair of articles such as two headlamps, each can be packed in its own transparent wrapping and disposed at a respective opening or window so that it is possible to appraise one headlamp from the front and one headlamp from the back or one headlamp with and the other headlamp without a cover-cap.

Furthermore, it is an advantage if the or each window of the box is formed by bending in a strip cut free from the box and extending over two adjacent lateral faces meeting at a side edge region of the box and the cuts extend over some distance from the particular edges concerned. In this case it is appropriate for the strips cut free each to have a predetermined bending line at ends in communication with the side walls, at which point the strip can be bent inwards into the box, and bent on itself at a third bending line substantially parallel to the bending lines at its ends.As a result, the strip cut free can be bent inwards easily and always at the prescribed points and to a prescribed form, and provide in cooperation with the remaining lateral faces between the cuts and the adjacent edges, a receiving shaft which is parallelopipedic in cross-section for the transparent wrapping or casing of the goods.

It is a further advantage if the box is longer, broader and higher in construction than the transparent casing or wrapping of the goods. Such a length and breadth of the box makes it easier to provide a sufficiently strong connection between the upper portion and the lower portion. The internal spaces remaining can be formed as compartments, to be used for accessory parts for example. It can be arranged that no additional retaining means are necessary for the transparent casing or wrapping if, because the opening or window need extend over only part of the height of the box, lateral faces remaining above and/or below the opening or window near the adjacent edges of the box bear against marginal regions of the transparent casing or wrapping. The remaining lateral faces on the box exterior after the bending in of the strip cut free, are available for instructions for use of the goods.

It is also an advantage if the or each headlamp is surrounded by a transparent casing or wrapping that is adapted to its external contour and that comprises an outer surrounding border or rim facing towards the interior of the box and giving the wrapping a block shape. In this case, preferably the transparent block forms a transparent covering at the box window with its front and one of its side walls and these walls can also bear against the lateral faces remaining when the strip is cut free, while the border or rim forming the block shape bears against the bent-in strip with its free edge. It can thereby be arranged that the headlamp is held in thetranspa- rent block and the transparent block in the box, secure against slipping and shaking.In addition, the covering surface of the window formed by the transparent block can be formed without sharp edges and so avoid risk of injury.

It is an additional advantage if at least one further compartment is introduced into the transparent wrapping. This compartment can be used for further accessory parts and may be disposed to be visible through the window or opening so that it is possible to appraise the accessory parts from the outside.

In a particularly preferred form the box comprises an access opening with a tongue or flap extending far beyond half the length or width of the box at each of two opposite edges of the opening and, as a result of bending, the two tongues or flaps together form a compartment which is separated from the other contents of the box and which is closed by cover or lid of the box. This compartment can be used for further accessory parts.

In order that the display may be transported easily and conveniently, the cover of the box comprises a carrying handle as known per se.

An embodiment of the invention is illustrated way of example in the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a demonstration pack for a pair of headlamps, Figure 2 is a further perspective view of the demonstration pack without the headlamps, Figure 3 shows a front view of one of the headlamps mounted in a transparent wrapping, and Figure 4 shows the view in the direction X in Figure 3.

The demonstration pack for a pair of headlamps illustrated in the drawing comprises a box 1 of cardboard and headlamps 3 each surrounded by a transparent wrapping of casing 2 and immovably inserted in the box. The wrappings 2 form the transparent coverings for two windows 4 in the box 1.

The transparent wrappings 2 are each preformed to the external contours of the headlamps 3 and have an outer surrounding border of skirt 5 which faces towards the interior of the box 1 and gives the wrapping 2 a block shape. The back of the block2 is closed by a cover 6 of which the outer surrounding border or skirt 7 faces counter to the direction in which the cover 6 is put on. When the cover 6 is put on, its outer border 7 slides along the innerface of the outer border 5 of the block 2. Such a transparent wrapping 2 consisting of a block 2 with a cover 6 has no sharp edges at the front 8 and lateral faces 5. As a result there is no risk of injury on the covering surfaces of the window 4 formed by the block 2.

Below the headlamp 3, the transparent block 2 comprises a compartment 9 for accessory parts 10 of the headlamp 3.

The box 1 of cardboard is made longer and higher than a transparent block 2.

In width, the box 1 corresponds to the width of about two blocks. The two windows 4 of the box 1 each extend along a vertical edge 11 of the box. The two edges 11 are situated diagonally opposite one another. The windows 4 are each formed by bending in a strip 12 cut out of the box 1 and extending over two adjacent lateral faces of the box 1. At the ends connected to the side walls of the box 1, strips 12 each terminate at a predetermined bending point or fold line 13 at which the strip 12 is bent inwards. The common edge 14 of the strip 12 extending overtwo lateral faces forms the third fold line. The bent-in strip 12 forms, in cooperation with the remaining lateral faces 15 between the cuts and the adjacent edges, a receiving shaft for the transparent block 2 of the headlamp 3.With cover 16 of the box open, the headlamp 3 contained in the transparent block 2 can be pushed into the receiving shaft like a drawer. The headlamps 3 can be appraised to theirfull extent through the windows 4 extending over two lateral faces. The lateral faces 15 and 16 of the box remaining after bending in the strips 12 can be used for instructions for use of the headlamps. The full-height lateral faces 16 connecting the upper portion to the lower portion afford sufficiently great rigidity for the box 1. The compartments formed at the sides of the transparent blocks 2 in each case by the lateral faces 16 and the bent-in strips, can be used for further accessory parts of the headlamps 3.

As a result of the arrangement of the two transparent blocks 2 in the box, the lower end face is sufficient as a base for the box.

The box 1 comprises a flap 17 at each of two opposite edges of the opening covered by the cover 16. The flaps extend far beyond half the length of the box (in the outwardly folded state, the flaps are illustrated in broken lines). As a result of bending, the two flaps 17 overlap and together form a compartment 18 which is separated from the other contents of the box and which is covered by an inner cover flap 19. This cover flap 19 comprises a carrying handle 20 which projects out of an openings 21 in the cover 16.

The compartment 18 which is separated from the other contents of the box is used for the cover-cap of a headlamp 3. The other cover-cap is placed on a headlamp so that the two headlamps can be appraised with and without cover-cap while in their packing.

Claims

1. A display pack for goods, e.g. for motor vehicle parts, such as a pair of headlamps, comprising a box which has at least one opening orwindow to show the packed goods, wherein: a) at least one transparent wrapping or casing is provided for the goods, b) the transparent wrapping is disposed in said at least one opening or window to be held in a fixed position in the box, and c) said at least one window of the box extends over a portion of two adjacent lateral faces of the box and is at least substantially equal in width, height and depth to the goods in the transparent wrapping.

2. A pack as claimed in claim 1, wherein said window of the box is formed by bending in a strip which is cut from two adjacent lateral walls of the box.

3. A pack as claimed in claim 2, wherein the cuts forming said strip extend at a distance from the particular adjacent edges of the box.

4. A pack as claimed in claim 2 or claim 3, wherein the strip comprises, at each of the ends connected to the side walls, a predetermined location at which the strip can be bent inwards into the box, and at an intermediate further location the strip is bent to form two lateral faces.

5. A pack as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, having respective openings or windows in which goods in two transparent wrappings or casings are displayed, the two openings or windows extending over two diagonally opposite edges of the box.

6. A pack as claimed in one of the preceding claims wherein the box is longer, wider and higher is construction than the or each transparent casing or wrapping.

7. A packed as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the or each said casing or wrapping is adapted to the external contours of the goods it contains and it comprises an external surrounding border or skirt which faces towards the interior of the box and which gives said wrapping a block shape.

8. A pack as claimed in claim 7, wherein a front face of said block-shape casing or wrapping together with one of its side walls forms a transparent covering of box window in which it is placed and bears against lateral faces of the box that-remain adjacent said window when the strip is bent inwards, while the border or skirt bears with its free edge against the bent-in strip.

9. A pack as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein at least one supplementary compartment is formed in the transparent wrapping or casing.

A packed as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein at opposite sides of the box there are respective tongues orflaps extending from said sides to form a substantial overlap with each other and having folds to define a compartment which is separated from the other contents of the box and which is covered by a cover of the box.

11. A pack as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein a top flap or cover of the box comprises a carrying handle.

12. A display pack for a pair of motor vehicle parts, particularly for a pair of headlamps, comprising a box in which a pair of individual transparent wrappings or casings containing the respective parts are placed, the parts being visible in their wrappings or casings at respective openings or windows in the box on the regions of a pair of its diagonally opposite side edges, each opening or window extending over portions of the two adjacent lateral faces meeting at each said side edge and having a height, width and depth at least substantially equal to those of the part being displayed thereat in its wrapping or casing.

A box for a display pack for goods comprising pair of objects, the box having respective openings or windows at a pair of diagonally opposite edges and each extending over positions of the two adjacent lateral faces meeting at the respective side edge, the height of said windows or openings being less than the height of the associated side edges, said openings or windows being formed by bending in the walls of the box at said lateral faces extending from said side edges whereby, in combination with the remaining adjacent portions of said lateral faces beyond the vertical extent of said openings or windows, a pair of tubular passages are provided for insertion of the objects to be displayed at said openings or windows.

A blank for a box according to claim 13 for a display pack for goods comprising a pair of objects, the box having respective openings or windows at a pair of diagonally opposite side edges and each extending over positions of the two adjacent lateral faces meeting at the respective side edge, the height of said windows or openings being less than the height of the associated side edges, said openings or windows being formed by bending in the walls of the box at said lateral faces extending from said side edges whereby, in combination with the remaining adjacent portions of said lateral faces beyond the vertical extent of said openings or windows, a pair of tubular passages are provided for insertion of the objects to be displayed at said openings or windows.

15. A display pack for goods, constructed and arranged for use substantially as described herein with reference to the accompanying drawings.

16. A box for a display pack, constructed and arranged for use substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1 and 2 of the accompany- ing drawings.
