Abstract

216,801. Barber, E. Dec. 10, 1923. Detaching-gear. - In a support for lifebuoys &c. of the kind in which the buoys are released electromagnetically the buoy 14 hangs in a flexible loop or band one end of which is tethered at 13 to a base-board 1, the other end is secured to an apertured plate 10 which is passed through a hole in the baseboard and hung on one arm of a lever pivoted at 8, the other arm 6 being held down by a horizontally moving catch 3 held in engagement by a spring 15. A catch 3, pivoted at 4, forms part of the armature of an electromagnet 2 which, when energized, releases the arm 6 and allows the buoy &c. to fall and free itself when the plate 10 has passed through the opening in the base board. A stop plate 11 prevents the plate 10 from slipping over the end of the lever when the apparatus is set. A circuit diagram is given for a number of buoys on a ship and releasable from a number of points, relay arrangements being included to give a continuous alarm after such release until the apparatus is reset.
