Cans and canisters; bodies.-Metal food tins, particularly those of oval section, a r e provided internally with one or more strengthening belts 5, preferably formed with a rib 5<a> and beaded edges 5<b>, 5<c>, to prevent collapse of the tin on or after exhaustion of the air therefrom. The belt or belts may be held in place merely by the elasticity of the metal, or the ends may be connected by a lapped lock joint, or the belt may be brazed or otherwise secured to the wall of the tin.
