Abstract

A frame device comprising elements, including side pieces 10 and at least one cross piece, that are mountable on site or at a factory. Each side piece 10 and at least one cross piece has a longitudinal groove 15. A door stop device 16 in the form of a rib has a longitudinal ledge 17 at one side of the rib with the centre line 18 thereof at a distance 20 from the centre line of the rib 19. The distance between the centre lines is such that it defines one of two predetermined door thicknesses, depending on the orientation of the rib when the ledge is placed in the groove. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A building construction element The present invention relates to building construction elements and more precisely to a frame device, preferably for doors.
The problem behind the invention is to offer an arrangement comprising a limited number of components that are useable for a great variety of different frame height measures, door thickness measures and door width measures, for offering an alternative to comprehensive store keeping of frame elements for different door dimensions.
The idea behind the invention also is to offer a rational alternative to on-site construction of frames from general types of wood pieces.
In spite of comprehensive rationalising in the construction field, still today there exists in certain countries a very comprehensive craftsman type working of general type wood pieces into door frames.
In for instance the U.K. there exist an imperial type of standard as well as a metric standard for doors.
This results in the width and height measures of different door blades and frames, respectively, differing from each other. Additionally, the thickness of door blades also varies. For general inside doors there are typical measures of 1 (35 mm) and 40 mm, respectively, with the result that the abutment element of the frame has to be placed at corresponding different distances from the edge of the frame.
The differences in thickness in combination with a number of different width and height measures implies that a complete stock of ready made frame components will be extremely comprehensive, such that in practice a full stock keeping will be impossible.
In order to eliminate this the present invention provides a set of frame components, comprising side pieces, at least one door stop piece and at least one cross piece that are may be assembled to form a frame wherein each side piece has at least one longitudinal groove, said door stop piece being in the form of a longitudinal element, having a longitudinal projection from one face thereof with the centre line of the projection spaced from the centre line of the element, whereby frames may be assembled to suit two predetermined door thicknesses depending on the orientation of the element when the projection is located in the groove.
The components of the set provided are semifinished articles as distinguished from general types of wood pieces. The frames may be assembled at site or at a factory. The frame device is characterised in that each side piece has at least one longitudinal groove, that a door abutment device in the shape of elongated element, for instance a rib, has a longitudinal ledge at one side of the element with the centre line thereof at a distance from the centre line of the element, and that said distance is such that it defines one of two predetermined door thicknesses, depending on the orientation of the element, when the ledge is placed in the groove.
In fact, the difference between the two door thicknesses catered for will be twice the distance between the centre lines of the projection and the element as a whole.
In one embodiment the side piece is such that it has grooves in sides turned away from each other.
Preferably, the grooves are oriented in register with each other in the case where the grooves are located along the centre line of the side piece. When such a central placement does not prevail, the grooves are positioned such that the side piece may be turned around with a maintained door thickness measure, i.e. the distance from a respective one of the grooves to the nearest side edge is one and the same.
In order to allow a height and width adaptation there are cutting denotations at one side of the side piece, and such denotations define relevant side piece lengths.
The accompanying drawings show some preferred embodiments of the invention, where Figure 1 is a schematic perspective view of the components of a set of frame components according to the invention; Figure 2 in a cross section shows a frame element and the door stop device thereof; Figure 3 shows a further frame element and the door stop device thereof; Figure 4 in a perspective view shows a frame element having cutting denotations at one end thereof.
The door frame in Figure 1 comprises a pair of side pieces 10, 11 and double upper cross pieces 12, 13. In the figure there is also a threshold 14 shown.
In each side piece and also the cross pieces there are grooves 15. Such grooves are formed in sides facing from each other of a respective one of the elements.
The idea behind this is to allow the operator to freely choose the "best" side of a respective one of the frame elements, which normally consist of solid wood. The reference numeral 15' (Figure 3) shows an alternative placement of grooves, implying the same distance to the marginal edges of the frame element irrespective of which one of the sides of frame element is facing the door opening.
Each one of the frame elements also has a door stop 16 in the form of a rib having an attached, longitudinal ledge 17 (Figures 2 and 3). The centre line 18 of the ledge is located at a distance from the centre line 19 of the rib 16 as indicated by the measure 20. The idea behind this is to make possible two different measures of door thickness 21 and 22 (Figure 3).
By simply orienting and fixing, for instance nailing and gluing, the rib 16 in either one of two possible ways, the desirable possibility of being able to offer two different door thicknesses with one and the same basic element is obtained.
The broken lines 23 in Figure 3 represent a number of different frame depths for various needs of the type that there is also indicated a groove placement 15' allowing one and the same positioning of the door stop relative the door, irrespective which one of the sides of the frame element is the one that receives the door stop element.
In Figure 4there is shown a frame element 10 having denotations 24 for cutting of the element at desired predetermined dimensions depending on what is theoretically possible in view of the market needs.
Although simple embodiments have been shown it is realised that a number of variations are possible within the scope of the claims.
