Abstract

A portable dental unit housed in a case with a base tray (T) and a lid (L), and including a rack of dental instruments (N, O, R), an electric motor for powering the instruments, a water reservoir (H) or (D) and an air reservoir for supplying air and water to one dental instrument (N) and means (A, G, S, P') for controlling operation of the instruments. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Portable dental treatment unit The present invention is concerned with a portable dental unit.
In developing countries dental surgeries can be very expensive to build and maintain, and people may.have to travel long distances in order to attend a dental surgery.
Accordingly there is provided a portable dental treatment unit comprising a carrying case having a lid and a base tray; a rack within the case; a plurality of dental instruments mounted in the rack; an electric motor providing power for at least one of said instruments and which is connectable to an outside power source; a water reservoir for supplying water to at least one of said dental instruments; an air reservoir for supplying air to at least one of said dental instruments, and a first control means for controlling the flow of air and water to said instruments, and a second control means for controlling an electrically operable one of said instruments.
The present invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure lisa perspective view of the present invention showing the treatment unit which has been opened to reveal severai dental instruments; and Figure 2 is a perspective view of the dental unit of Figure 1 which is closed and readily portable.
With reference to Figure 1, there is illustrated an open case having a base tray T and a lid L. In the lid are located two air valves A for controlling flow of air from an air reservoir in the case, together with two water valves "G" for controlling flow of water from several water reservoirs H, H' and D, and two selectors "S", each of which moves in a way indicated by the arrows for selecting delivery of air or water to a dental instrument. A barometer B measures the water or air pressure is located adjacent the selectors. Below the valves A and G is a miniature instrument rack or board M having four dental instruments thereon; on the left side is a blow pipe or blow torch N, two central drills 0 for milling tools and an auxiliary tool R in the right side.
One of the water tanks H is secured beside the rack M. In the lower part of the right side of the Lid L is an action treadle P' which controls the power supply to the dental tools 0 and Rand which can be housed in the left side of the brief case in the space labelled P.
In the left side T of the case there is housed an electric motor (not shown) which is switched on or off by the switch C and four different fuses F that will be used depending on the kind of electricity current.
The electric motor is connectable with an outside power supply by a cable, and operate the dental tools in the rack under the control of the treadle P'.
A general water tank D is housed in the left hand side of the case and is connected by a flexible tube Q to the water valves GA A spare water tank H' is also housed in this side of the case.
1. A portable dental treatment unit comprising a carrying case having a lid (L) and a base tray (T) and housing within the case; a rack (M); the case; a plurality of dental instruments (N, O, R) mounted in the rack; an electric motor providing power for at least one of said instruments and which is connectable to an outside power source; a water reservoir (H, D) for supplying water to at least one of said dental instruments; an air reservoir for supplying air to at least one of said dental instruments, a first control means (GA, S) for controlling the flow of air and water to said instruments, and a second control means (P') for controlling an electrically operable one of said instruments.
2. A dental treatment unit as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the rack (M) is located in the lid portion (L) of the case.
3. A dental treatment unit as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein the water reservoir (H) and the air reservoir are both connected to the same dental instrument (N), and said first control means (G, A, S) is operable to connect either reservoir with said instrument.
4. A portable dental treatment unit substantially as described herein and substantially as shown in the accompanying drawing.
