Abstract

Bedding of ironwork, eg on the carriageway, uses a semi-rigid foam system formwork to support the cast iron frame while bedding and encasing the frame in a mono concrete operation. This provides speed of operation, enables quality control of Contractors easy to monitor, is convenient, and most importantly provides minimal restriction and inconvenience to passing traffic and the general public. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Specification for stabilising and raising ironworks in carriageways, footways, general areas of vehicle traffic Break out perimeter surfacing to base of ironworks, (e.g. manholes, gullies, service access etc), excavate down to the base of ironwork frame. Remove ironwork cover and frame, excavate and remove existing support, for example 9" thick brickwork, giving minimum 150mm depth below ironwork frame base. Clean off mortar and generally inspect condition of remaining shaft for example, brickwork.
Report on condition additional removal of support to be determined on site as to suitability of load bearing. If removal required to be charged extra rate per 75mm. Contractor determines suitability. Make, fix, internal shutter to shaft (internal perimeter of ironwork frame size) using rigid urea foam or suitable material. Construct shutter to desired levels.
Cast insitu bearing ring beam 150mm deep x 200mm wide to desired level.
Place ironwork frame and adjust to level directly on ring beam. Sand breaker and dowel bars incorporated if required. Place concrete filler mix around ironwork frame to desired finsihed level of underside of wearing course. Reinstate tamp surface to finished levels witin 24 hours.
Remove internal shuttering. Cover replaced after shuttering strip out.
1. The bedding of ironwork using the semi-rigid foam system formwork, holding the design mix concrete to allow the bedding and surround of the ironwork frame with concrete while retaining the ironwork at the desired ironwork surface levels.
