Abstract

In a hinge for doors of pieces of furniture, the hinge casing (1) is made of sheet steel. At least one hinge link is mounted on axle stubs (10) which extend from the hinge casing wall (8) into the hinge casing (1). To improve the support and the alignment of the axle stubs (10), the hinge casing wall (8) is pressed outwardly to form a collar (11) at the point of bearing. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Hinge casing The invention relates to a hinge casing, in particular of sheet steel, comprising at least one axle for a hinge link which is mounted in the hinge casing wall.
Generally, the two hinge links of a hinge for furniture doors are mounted on two hinge axles, at the hinge arm and in the hinge casing. In particular when other furniture parts, such as parts of a closing or locking device, should be provided in the hinge casing, two hinge axles extending through the hinge casing may require too much space. It is therefore desired in some cases that one hinge link is mounted on two axle stubs projecting from the hinge casing wall so that the space between the axle stubs remains free. Thus, a greater opening angle of the hinge is obtained, too. This kind of mounting causes difficulties in conventional hinges because the wall of the casing must be very strong to provide the required loading capacity and alignment for the axle stubs. In particular the walls of deep-drawn steel casings are very thin and cannot supply sufficient support for the projecting axle stubs.
It is therefore the object of the invention to provide a hinge casing, in particular of punched sheet steel, which provides, also in the case of thin hinge casing walls, sufficiently stable mounting of the axle stubs forming the hinge axle.
According to the invention this is achieved in that the hinge casing wall is deformed to form a collar at the bearing points for the hinge axle.
It is advantageously provided that the hinge casing wall is pressed outwardly.
This provides the possibility of anchoring the axle stub more firmly in the hinge casing wall by welding it, for example, to the outwardly pressed collar or by pressing the outwardly pressed collar and the axle stub.
An embodiment of the invention provides that the height of the outwardly pressed collar is substantially equal to the thickness of the hinge casing wall.
In the following an embodiment of the invention will be described in more detail with reference to the figures of the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 shows a schematic view of a hinge in accordance with the invention, Figure 2 shows a side view of the hinge casing, and Figure 3 shows a sectional view along lines I-I and ll-ll of Figure 2.
As can be seen from Figure 1, the hinge comprises a hinge casing 1 which is connected with the hinge arm 4 by means of two hinge links 2, 3.
The hinge arm 4 is, for example by means of screws 5, fastened to a mounting plate mounted on the furniture side wall. The mounting plate and the kind in which the hinge is fastened will not be described in more details as this is not subject of the present invention, and the features of the hinge correspond to the conventional state of the art.
The hinge links 2, 3 are mounted at the hinge arm 4 by means of conventional hinge axles 6.
In the hinge casing, the outer hinge link 2 is mounted on axle stubs 10, and the inner hinge link is mounted on a hinge axle which extends through the hinge casing 1 and is not shown. The outer hinge link 2 has at least in the region of the bearing axle a U-shaped cross-section.
As can be seen from Figure 3, the two axle stubs 10 (one axle stub 10 only is shown in Figure 3) are part of a U-shaped bow member 9 which is further provided with a holding or positioning stub 7. Said latter-mentioned is held by a flap 12 punched out of the bottom of the hinge casing 1.
In the region of the axle stub 10, the hinge casing wall 8 is on each side provided with an outwardly pressed collar 11. The height h of the collar 11 corresponds substantially to the thickness s of the hinge casing wall 8. Thus, the bearing surface for the axle stubs 10 in the hinge casing wall 8 is doubled so that, even in the case of very thin walls, relatively great forces can be transmitted.
1. A hinge casing, in particular of sheet steel, comprising at least one axle for a hinge link mounted in the hinge casing wall, characterized in that the hinge casing wall (8) is deformed to form a collar at the point of bearing of the hinge axle (2).
2. A hinge casing as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the hinge axle is formed by axle stubs (10) mounted in bearings on one side only.
3. A hinge casing as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the hinge casing wall (8) is pressed outwardly.
4. A hinge casing as claimed in claim 3, characterized in that the height of the outwardly pressed collar is substantially equal to the thickness of the hinge casing wall (8).
5. A hinge casing substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
