Abstract

Jacks.-In a screw jack in which a member within the hollow lifting-pillar can be raised or lowered by hand to vary the effective length of the jack, the member 10 is formed with a series of grooves 11 any one of which can be engaged by balls 12 contained in a chamber 13 in the head of the pillar 6. When the jack is inverted the balls leave the groove and the member 10 can be moved with respect to the pillar. The pin 7 which engages the usual vertical groove 8 in the pillar is attached to a spring 9 formed with a thumbpiece to facilitate disengagement. Specifications 16662/05 and 181,994 are referred to.
