Abstract

216,071. Bennion, C. F. Feb. 14, 1924. Chimney tops.-A chimney-cowl, windvane, &c. is provided with a liquid retarder or damping device, interposed between the moving member and the mounting. The vane &c. 3 is mounted in a carrier 5 and is provided with a conical seating 7 engaged by the conical extremity 9 of a cylindrical support 11 situated within a well constituted by a cylindrical casing 15. The carrier 5 has a depending sleeve 17 surrounding the support 11, and a flange 19 surrounding the lip of the casing 15, the parts 11, 15, 17, 19 being co-axial. The well is charged with thick oil, a film of which separates the support 11 and sleeve 17 and provides the desired retarding action.
