Abstract

216,055. Chorlton, F. O L. Nov. 28, 1923. Linkage gears.-In a single eccentric, reversible valve-gear, the valve and cut-off controlling - means a.re both connected to the eccentric strap at 90‹ apart instead of 120‹ apart as in the gear described in Specification 203,518. The eccentric strap c is connected at d to the valve, and at h by a rod i to a block l slidable in a link m and connected to a governor-controlled relay piston r. The arc of the link m is struck from centre h and the gear is arranged to vary the cut-off without affecting the lead. Effects equivalent to a reduction or an increase in the angle of advance of the eccentric are produced by moving the block l to the top or bottom of the link respectively. The link m may be dispensed with and the rod i moved by a relayoperated bell-crank.
