Abstract
The frame of the window or door is provided with ventilation channels 14 to enable outside air to pass to the inside via a filter 17, holes 15 and a valve 16. The valve may be operated as a blower the increase the airflow and partitions 19, 25, 34, which may be covered with acoustic material, are provided in the channels to reduce the transmission of sound. The windows are double glazed and the channels are provided in the upper, middle and bottom horizontal frames 1-3 of the windows. The bottom frame has rollers to enable sliding. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
A window or door structure having a natural ventilation and muffler effects
This invention relates to a window or door structure, particularly, having a natural ventilation and muffler effects of window or door structure.
According to the requirements of a modern building, comfort, beauty and privacy are the three major requirements. In addition to the aforesaid features, the aluminium window or door also has other advantages such as light weight, lower cost, and being easy to install. That is why the aluminium window has been widely used in all buildings.
However, an aluminium window or door does have some drawbacks, such as having no air convection between the indoor and the outdoor upon the window being closed. Although the temperature in the room may be conditioned with an air conditioner, it is merely furnished with a wet and cool air circulated inside the room, and that circulation usually makes the person inside the room feeling uncomfortable. Of course, the window or door of the room may be opened for ventilation; then, the noise in the city over 80 decibels and the polluted air will enter into the room and into the person's ear and brain as well. All that noise and polluted air would make people feeling unconcentrated or annoying, and even jeopardize their health. Particularly, the places which urgently need the both requirements of ventilation and acoustic effects are as follows:
(1).In using the bath room, the door and window thereof are usually closed, and the air in room is replete with steam which may adversely affect the user's health. In case of having a leak of gas out of the water heater, life danger may involve.
Consequently, a better ventilation in addition to privacy for a bath room is important,
(2). A chemical experimental room or other experimental rooms: In that room various smells or odours may exist, and may make the person therein feels unbearable; therefore, an experimental room always needs the highest privacy, quietness, and better ventilation.
(3). In the mid-summer, the room constantly furnished with air conditioner would be replete with cool air and moisture, and has no suitable convection with the outdoor natural air; a person who stays in that room for a long period of time is liable to suffer from arthritis and bronchitis, the socailed modern diseases.
It is apparent from the aforesaid few points that the ventilation and muffler functions are unable to obtain simultaneously from the conventional window or door structure, but they are both important to our health. In order to obtain better muffler and light filtering effects, people usually use a fourglass-sheet type of window for better reflection effects to sound and light so as to have better muffler and light filtering effects; however, the fourglass-sheet-type of window needs more construction material than the two-glass-sheet-type of window; further, the former is not convenient in assembling and disassembling as well as cperation.
In view of the aforesaid drawbacks of the conventional window or door, the inventor has, through repeated studies and experiences in making window and door, developed a new window and door structure having a natural ventilation and muffler effects, of which the major feature is that a vent gutter is furnished in the horizontal frame or vertical frame of a window for air convection between the room and the outdoor.
Another feature of the present invention is that a number of partition boards are provided in the vent gutter of the window frame of the present invention; the functions of that partition board are to compress and to expand the noise entered into the vent gutter so as to destroy the intensity of a sound wave and to increase the flowing passage of a sound and to reduce the loudness thereof.
A still another feature of the present invention is that a ventilation regulating valve is provided in the vent gutter for regulating the ventilation voi- ume; further, a motor may be mounted for driving the ventilation regulating valve as a blowing device to increase the flow rate of air.
A further feature of the present invention is that the vent gutter or the partition board may be furnished with an acoustic material (such as asbestos board or glass fibers, etc.) for better muffling effect.
A still further feature of the present invention is that two layers of glass are provided in each set of glass frames so as to increase the reflection effects to noise and light, and to reduce the rifts and cracks between the glass frame and the window frame; in other words, that structure would reduce entering passages of noise to the indoor; moreover, that structure would also save construction material, and would provide more convenience in assemblingidisassembling and operation.
Yet, another feature of the present invention is that a filling material such as water, or inert gas, or heat-proof material or acoustic material may be furnished between the two layers of glass for better heat-proof, sound-proof, and light filtering effects, as well as brilliant color result.
An embodiment of this invention is described by way of example, with reference to the drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a window frame structure in the present invention.
Figure 2 is an exploded view of the window frame structure in the present invention.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the glass frame in the present invention.
Figure 4 is a longitudinal sectional view of the present invention.
Figure 5 is a horizontal sectional view of the present invention.
Referring to Figure 1, there is shown a perspective view of a window frame structure of the present invention (also, referring to Figure 4, a longitudinal sectional view), in which the top horizontal frame 1 is rectangular hollow unit. On the both sides of the top that frame 1, there are fur nished fixing flanges 11 respectively for being embedded in a cement wall 7 to hold an aluminium window firmly in place. At the bottom of the frame 1, there are provided an upper rail 12 for a glass frame 5 to slide back and forth and a protection flange 13 for preventing the glass frame 5 from sliding off. Inside the top horizontal frame 1, there is a rectangular hollow vent gutter 14, of which the both ends are provided with ventilation holes 15 respectively to have the indoor and the outdoor air communicated with each other.One end of the vent gutter 14 that faces the indoor is furnished with a ventilation regulating valve 16, which is supported at both ends with a rod 161 mounted in a round hole 41 on the vertical frame 4, and which may be operated manually for controlling the air volume circulated. The rod 161 may also be connected with the shaft of a motor for driving the ventilation regulating valve 16 to rotate, i.e., the valve 16 becoming a blower to speed up the air circulation. On the end of the vent gutter 14 that is connected with the outdoor, a filter 17 is mounted in a groove 18. Inside the vent gutter 14, several sets of partition boards 19 are provided with a given sloping angle towards the indoor. The structures between the middle horizontal frame 2 and the top horizontal frame 1 are similar.The differences between them are that the top of the middle horizontal frame 2 is furnished with a lower rail 21 and a protection flange 22, while the bottom of the middle horizontal frame 2 is furnished with an upper rail 23 and a protection 24; the bottom at one end of the lower rail 21 is furnished with a drain hole 211 for draining the rain or dust that may be deposited on the top of the middle horizontal frame 2. The partition board 25 in the middle horizontal frame 2 is perpendicular to the frame surface. The structures between the bottom horizontal frame 3 and the top horizontal frame 1 are similar except that the bottom edges at both sides of the bottom horizontal frame 3 are furnished with fixing flantes 31, and the top of the bottom horizontal frame 3 is furnished with a lower rail 32 and a protection flange 33.The bottom at one end of the lower rail 32 is also furnished with a drain hole 321. The partition board 34 in the bottom horizontal frame 3 is positioned at a sloping angle towards the outdoor. The vertical frame 4 in the present invention is similar to those of the known windows, and therefore no further description is necessary. However, the vertical frame 4 may also be furnished with a ventilation channel as those in the horizontal frames for increasing the air ventilating volume.
Since all the horizontal frames are furnished with a ventilation channel, air convection between the inside and the outside of a room will take place as a result of wind or temperature variation. The air convection can maintain the air in a room fresh, since the fresh air is essential to our health; further, the air convection may be regulated by operating the ventilation regulating valve. Aside from using electric motor or fully opening the ventilation regulating valve, the ventilation capacity of the present invention according to the frame dimensions of a general known window is approximately equal to a hole of 1 to 4 square inches furnished on a cement wall. The dimensions of frames of the general known aluminum window or door is approximately 1 to 2 inches high, 1.5 to 3 inches wide, and 3 to 10 feet long.One set of vent gutters will have an area being equal to the height of the horizontal window frame multiplying the length thereof, i.e., approximately 36 square inches to 240 square inches. In the vent gutter, there are some partition boards, which are used for minimizing the outdoor noise to enter into the room. A sound is usually described with three parameters, i.e., pitch, loudness, and quality. Loudness is the intensity of a sound, of which the definition is that an amount of a sound energy passes through a unit area being perpendicular to the moving direction of a sound wave at a unit of time.It may be expressed with a unit of "Decibel", for example if the intensity of sound wave is "I", the loudness thereof would be:
n = 10 logl/10 (1) 1o = a reference intensity, of which the valve is 10-16 Watt/per square m.m., i.e., the lowest sound intensity that a person's ear can hear. Since there are more than one set of partition boards in the vent gutter, the air stream that transmits the sound wave will pass through a compression and expansion processes to reduce the sound intensity to some extent.From a given sound source, the loudness of a sound in a given space is varied by a distance from the sound source to the hearing person or measuring instrument; for example, if "P" is the power of a sound source "R", the sound intensity "I" is equal to "P" over a spherical area with a ra dius "R" (4sTR2): :1 = PMirR2 According to equation (1), the loudness of point is n = 10 logP/4arR210 Since the partition board can increase the transmission space, i.e., the distance between the sound source and the indoor, the partition board has the function of reducing the loudness of a sound.In order to obtain better muffler resule, the vent gutter or the partition board may be mounted with an acoustic material 8 (such as asbestos or glass fibers, etc.); in other words, the acoustic material can reduce the loudness of a sound that passes through the vent gutter.
Referring to Figure 2, there is shown a disassembled view of the window frame of the present invention, in which the horizontal frames 1, 2 and 3 and the vertical frames 4 may be made by means of extrusion molding or compression molding into a whole piece or in separate pieces. In case of being made into pieces, the individual pieces may be assembled into a piece of horizontal frame by means of screws 9; then, the horizontal frames 1, 2 and 3 and the vertical frames may be assembled together; however, before assembling the vertical frame 4 and the horizontal frames 1, 2, and 3 together, mortises 42, 43, and 44 must be furnished on the vertical frames 4 respectively for the top, middle, and bottom horizontal frames, and then use screw to fix these frames in place.
Referring to Figure 3, there is shown the structure of the glass frame in the present invention, in which the glass frame includes a top horizontal frame 51, a bottom horizontal frame 52, a left vertical frame 53 and a right vertical frame 54. These various frame are assembled together with screw bolts 55. On the top of the top horizontal frame 51, a clamping piece 511 made of semi- rigid material, and a buffer strip 512 made of flexible material are mounted; the length of the buffer strip 512 is equal to that of the top horizontal frame 51. The clamping piece 511 and the buffer strip 512 sandwich an upper rail 23 (as shown in Figure 4) so as to have the top horizontal frame 51 slid freely along the upper rail 23. Since the clamping piece 511 and the buffer strip 512 clamp closely on the upper rail 23, the top horizontal frame 51 would not separate from the frame during sliding.On the bottom of the top horizontal frame 51, there are furnished two grooves 513 and 513', in which two clamping strips 514 and 514' made of flexible material are mounted respectively; the length of the clamping strip 514 or 514' is equal to that of the top horizontal frame 51. Between the clamping strips 514 and 514' and the groove 513, and 513' buffer spaces 515 and 515' are formed respectively; that buffer space would provide a buffer effect to the sliding glass frame and its shock so as to prevent the glass sheet 6 and 6'from breaking. The top structure of the bottom horizontal frame 52 is the same as the bottom grooves 513 and 513' of the top horizontal frame 51. The both ends of the bottom horizontal frame 52 are furnished with two pulley frames 521 and pulleys 522 respectively.The pulley 522 is to be mounted over the lower rail 32 so as to have the bottom horizontal frame 52 slid freely thereon without being derailed. At the bottom portion of the bottom horizontal frame 52, there is furnished a dust guard 523 made of flexible material; that dust guard is closely mounted along the window frame so as to prevent the dust from entering into the room or from being accumulated at the bottom of the bottom horizontal frame 52, and to prevent a sound from entering into the room. Along the right side of the left vertical frame 53 and the left side of the right vertical frame 54, there are furnished the same grooves as those grooves 513 and 513' on the top horizontal frame 51. The clamping strips in the grooves of the glass frame 5 clamp a glass sheet 6 and 6' respectively, which may be a reinforced glass, or acrylic sheet, or other plastic material.Between two glass sheets 6 and 6', a water or inert gas or heat insulating material or acoustic material may be filled.
The clamping strips 514 and 514' may be made of silicone rubber or other material that has better water-tight or air-tight result. Further, the filling material between two glass sheets 6 and 6' may provide better heat-insulating, sound- proof, and iifht filtering functions; a beautiful feature may also be obtained by varying the color of the filling material. In the present invention, each set of glass frame 5 is mounted with 2 layers of glass sheets 6 and 6', while the known each set of four-set glass frames is mounted with only one layer of glass sheet; therefore, the window of the present invention has better muffler and filtering effects than the known window.Usually, upon an outdoor noise hitting the first layer glass sheet, most part of the noise will be reflected back, and a part of the noise after entering into the glass will also be reflected back because of the vibration of glass, and another part of noise will upon entering into glass, be consumed as a result of friction heat inside the glass; finally, only a very small part of the noise can penetrate through the rift in the glass structure. That small part of noise will go through the same processes of reflection and friction consumption of the second layer of glass sheet, and finally the noise that can really enter into the room would be very little; in other words, the present invention has much better noise control effect than the known two-glass-sheet-and-open-type of window.Since the present invention has two layers of glass sheets mounted in one set of glass frame, it will save a lot of material than the current known window frame having four sheets of glass aside from the advantages of construction work, of assembling and disassembling work, and of being easy in operation. Moreover, the rift and crack that may exist between the glass frame and the window frame will also be reduced, i.e., to reduce the possible passage to let noise into a room, and to have better muffler effect than the current known fourglass-sheet type of window.
The aforesaid drawings are merely served as an embodiment of the present invention, but should not be construed as a limit to this invention. Any embodiment made by a person skilled in the art without deviating from the concept and spirit of this invention, and even with minor modification in accordance with the structure and features what are claimed in the claims of the present invention, should be deemed as being within the scope of this invention.
Claims (6)
1. A window or door structure having a natural ventilation and muffler effects comprising a rectangular hollow vent gutter in the window frame, and at the both ends of said vent gutter, there are furnished with ventilation holes respectively so as to have the indoor and the outdoor communicated each other; and inside said vent gutter, a number of sets of partition boards are provided; and air convection between the indoor and the outdoor may take place as a result of air naturally flowing or temperature difference upon the window being closed; and said partition board can reduce the intensity of noise entering into the vent gutter and can increase the transmitting passage of a noise so as to obtain the muffler and ventilation effects simultaneously.
2. A window or door structure as claimed in claim 1, wherein one end of said vent gutter being adjacent to the room is provided with a ventilation regulating valve that is supported with rod in a round hole on the horizontal frame, and said regu lating valve may be operated by hand for controlling the ventilation volume.
3. A window or door structure as claimed in claim 1, wherein said vent gutter or said partition board may be added with an acoustic material to muffle the noise entered into the vent gutter.
4. A window or door structure having a natural ventilation and muffler effects, wherein two grooves are provided in each set of glass frames; and in said groove, a clamping strip made of a flexible material is mounted, i.e., each two sets of clamping strips being used for fixing two layers of glass sheets so as to increase the reflection function to a noise, and to reduce the rift or crack between the glass frame and the window frame.
5. A window or door structure as claimed in claim 4, wherein the the space between the two layers of glass sheets may be filled with water or insert gas or other material for the purposes of heat-proof, muffler, and light filter.
6. A window or door structure and arranged substantially as herein described with reference to any of the figures of the drawings.
