Abstract

The module comprises a separate top 10 in the form of an inverted tray and a supporting subframe made from four identical interlocking segments 11 provided with chamfers 13. The top fits closely over the subframe and is held in position by its peripheral frame 12. Adjacent, equal height modules are bolted together through holes 14 provided in this frame to form a stage of any size. For storing, the stage top is inverted allowing the four segments of the subframe to be placed in the recess formed by the peripheral frame. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Compact stage module This invention relates to a compact stage module.
Portable staging blocks are widely used in educational and recreational applications. Three types are in general use-rigid box form-table type using metal frames -- collapsible hinged frame systems. Stage blocks of these types are either bulky to store, can damage floors or present a hazard from hinged parts during assembly and dismantling.
According to the present invention there is provided a compact stage module comprising a stage top with a peripheral frame in the form of an inverted tray, a supporting subframe made by four identical interlocking segments. The stage top fits closely over the subframe forming a rigid stage module.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective, the complete assembled stage module; Figure 2 shows the assembled subframe with the stage top removed; Figure 3 shows the detail of one segment of the subframe assembly; Figure 4 shows how the four subframe segments are stored in the inverted stage top.
Referring to the drawing the compact stage module comprises a stage top 10 and a subframe made from four identical interlocking segments 11.
The stage top fits closely over the assembled subframe retained in position by the peripheral frame 12.
Assembly is achieved by slotting together the four identical segments Figure 3, the stage top then clips over the frame Figure 2 - easy alignment is facilitated by small chamfers 13 to each corner of the subframe segments. Adjacent, equal height stage modules, are locked together with bolts and wing-nuts (not shown) through holes 14 provided in the peripheral frame 12.
To dismantle the stage module the steps described above are carried out in the reverse sequence.
Storing of the dismantled stage module -- Figure 4 - is achieved by inverting the stage top placing the four subframe segments in the recess formed by the peripheral frame. Further stage modules are stacked as high as practical.
1. A compact stage module comprising a stage top with a peripheral frame in the form of an inverted tray, a supporting subframe made by four identical interlocking segments. The stage top fits closely over the subframe forming a rigid stage module.
2. A compact stage module as claimed in Claim 1 wherein holes are provided in the peripheral frame of the stage top to facilitate the bolting together of adjacent stage modules.
3. A compact stage module as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the subframe segments have smail chamfers to facilitate easy alignment when positioning the stage top.
4. A compact stage module as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the depth of the recess formed by the peripheral frame of the stage top allows four subframe segments to be stored flat without protrusion.
5. A compact stage module substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1--4 of the accompanying drawing.
