Abstract

A washing up brush adapted to be connected to a mains water supply, has an outlet which is normally closed by a spring-loaded valve, the valve being openable by a hand-operated lever. The brush is shown in section in Figure 2. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Washing up brush This invention relates to a washing up brush particularly intended for use on a domestic sink and provided with a supply of water flowing through the brush structure and between the bristles of the same.
According to the invention a washing up brush comprises a body having an axial passage which terminates at one end in an outlet provided with a brush set, and at the other end is closed by an annular plug, a control valve located in said passage and urged by a spring located between the plug and the valve to close the passage at the brush end, the valve having a stem passing through the plug, a trigger pivoted to the body, engaged with the stem and projecting generally parallel to a lateral extension of the body, which said lateral extension has a flow passage therethrough adapted to be connected to a mains supply at its free end, which said lateral extension is also arranged and adapted to form a hand grip forthe washing up brush, and said trigger being movable towards the handgrip, by being enclosed between the fingers and palm of a hand gripping the same, to open the valve and direct a flow of water through the passages and th rough said brush set.
The invention is more particularly described in the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is an elevation; and Figure 2 is a sectional elevation.
Referringtothedrawings, thebodyportion 10 has a brush set 12 at one end, a cap 14 atthe other end, and the control trigger 16 projects from the cap. The body has a lateral extension 18 generally parallel to the trigger, and atthe end opposite to the body is connected by a flexible pipe 20 two a mains water supply.
As best seen in Figure 2, the construction is extremely simple and the body 10 has a generally axial bore housing a control valve 22 urged by spring 24trapped between the valve 22 and the closure plug 26. The valve 22 is urged against a seat 28 about an outlet port 30 in the body. Trapped in close juxtaposition to the outlet port is a brush set including a stock 32 which is apertured at 34 to allow water flowtherethrough, the brush set being engaged with the body by means of a nut 36.
The stem 38 of the valve is sealed to the plug by means of O-rings and the plug itself is sealed in the body further O-rings. The trigger 16 is pivoted by means of a fulcrum engagement 40 on the body, and has an eye engaged with the valve stem. The trigger projects below the cap 14which is held in place by a lug 42 engaged in a projection from the plug 26.
Itwill be appreciated that in use the portion 18 is held in one hand and the trigger 16 can be displaced in the direction of the arrow A towards the body by a finger orthumb when a flow of water is required.
When it is not required, and is released, the spring 24 returns the valve 22 to seat and stop the flow of water and incidentally return the trigger to the illustrated position.
