Description

SPECIFICATION Mounting paperboard for album with framing matt This invention relates to a photo-album or the like, and, more particularly, it is concerned with a photo mounting paperboard (orleaf)forthe photo-album of a construction such that photographs, etc. are arranged on the mounting paperboardwith a pressure-sensitive adhesive agent being applied on its surface, and then the surface ofthe mounting paperboard is covered with atransparentfilm in a mannerto be freely attachedto and peeled off the surface thereof.
Conventionally, this type of photo-mounting paperboard for album, and the like is constructed twodimensionally with a base board main body; a layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive agent; and a transparent film to be attached thereto, as disclosed in Japanese laid-open utility model application No.55-38700 and Japanese laid-open patent application No. 55-97991, hence the surface of the mounting paperboard per se is notfull of variety. In such conventional paperboard, sincethe photographs attached onto the same bulge outfortheirthickness from the surface of the paperboard, there accrues disadvantage such that, when a number of the photo-mounting paperboards are laid over one afterthe other and kept in that state for a long period of time, the edge portions ofthe photographs became curled unsightly.
In addition, since the transparent film is firmly pressed onto the surface ofthe photographs and comes into close contact with it during the long period of storage, there has taken place such a trouble that the surface ofthe photograph is impaired when the transparentfilm is to be peeled offthe paperboard.
That isto say, the surface of photo-printing paper is usually coated with water-soluble gelatin solution which unavoidably causes the blocking phenomenon between the surfaces ofthe photo-printing paper and the transparent film, when the interfaces between the paperboard and thetransparentfilm is insufficiently dried.
Moreover, since the photographs placed on the photo-mounting paperboard for album are viewed merely through thetransparentfilm over them, it lacks in the solid sense. Furthermore, in view of the facts that the size and angle of the photographs are in most cases not uniform and constant, these photographs had to be stored in a state of their being poor looking.
In orderto improve such situation, there has been known to use a framing mattfor preserving portrait, etc., as disclosed in Japanese utility model application No.55-149791, wherein a picture is inserted between the base board and a framing mattto produce solid sense by means ofthisframing matt, and, at the same time, to improve the preserving effect ofthe picture by the shape oftheframe. However, theframing mattas mentioned in the foregoing is able to store only a few leaves of photograph, and is therefore essentially different in its structure and shape from the so-called "loose leaf type photo-mounting paperboard"forthe album capable of storing a mumberof photographs at a time, hence it could not be directly applied to such loose leaftype photo-mounting paperboard.
In view, therefore, ofthe above-described disadvan tages inherentinthe known photo-mounting paper board for album, it is an object of the present invention to provide a photo-mounting paperboard for album with framing matt, wherein a framing matt of an appropriate thickness is attached to each leaf of the paperboard for the album without use of stitching.
It is another object of the present invention to provide an improved paperboard for photo-album, wherein, by providing a framing matt on the flat and two-dimensional paperboard for album, on which photographs, etc. are arranged, various disadvan- tages can be effectively prevented, such as the poor looking ofthe photograph as the result of curling atthe edge portions thereof, etc.; the peeling ofthe surface of the photograph, etc. which takes place owing to tight adhesion of the transparent film directly onto the surface of the photograph, etc.; and other troubles, thereby making it possible to preserve the photograph, etc. over a long period oftime, while maintainingtheiroriginal conditions.
It is still another object ofthe present invention to provide an improved photo-mounting paperboardfor the album, wherein the framing matt can be covered by a transparent film in close contact therewith, and, at the same time, by causing an air layerto exist in a space gap to be formed in the framing matt by punching out window portions, the undesirable blocking phenomenon can be prevented, and, further, the transparentfilm can be easily peeled offfrom the framing matt, thereby making it particularly possible to exhibit effective function of such window portions, when difficulty arises in peeling offthetransparent film fortheframing mattafteraprolonged period of preservation.
It is other object ofthe present invention to provide an improved photo-mounting paperboard for album, with which one can enjoy photographs with solid sense produced by thickness of the framing matt placed on the paperboard for album, and in which much more substance can be further given to the photographs in the album by possibly decorating the framing mats with superb border, etc. along the circumference ofthe windows as punched out.
According to the present invention, in general aspect of it, there is provided a paperboard for album with a framing matt, wherein said paperboard in required number of sheets are bound togetherto constructthe album, and wherein said paperboard is made of a base board main body, on the surface of which a pressure-sensitive adhesive agent is applied to form an adhesive surface for photographs, etc., and a transparentfilm is provided in a freely sticking and peeling manner on the pressure-sensitive adhesive layerof a base board main body constituting said paperboard for album, characterized in that a framing matt having a pressure-sensitive adhesive agent applied on at least one surfacethereof and having windows punched out, th rough which photographs, etc. come into view, is combined with said paperboard for album.
The foregoing objects, other objects as well as specific construction and function ofthe photomounting paperboard for album with framing matt, according to the present invention, will become more apparent and understandable from the following detailed description of a few preferred embodiments thereof, when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing: Figure lisa perspecive view of an album manufactured by binding a plurality of photo-mounting paperboards, each being provided with the framing matt, accordingtothe present invention; Figure 2 is a cross-sectional view ofthe album shown in Figure 1; Figure 3 is a perspective view showing another embodimentofthe album and its framing matt according to the present invention; Figure 4 is an enlarged perspective view, with its main part being cut away, oftheframing mattfor album shown in Figure 3 according to the present invention; and Figure5 isa perspective view showing still another embodiment ofthe framing mattfor album according to the present invention.
In the following, the present invention will be described in detail with reference to a few preferred embodimentsthereofshown in the accompanying drawing.
Referring firstto Figures 1 and 2, illustrating the first embodiment ofthe photo-mounting paperboard for album according to the present invention, the album 1 is made up of a paperboard 2, on which to place and adhere photographs, etc., a framing matt 3 provided on both surface sides of the paperboard 2, and covers 4to bind paperboardsforthealbum between them without use of stitching. In the drawing, a reference numeral 5 designates a base board main bodyforthe paperboard 2, a reference numeral 6 denotes a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer, and a numeral 7 refers to a transparent film which can be freely adhered to and peeled ofthe framing matt 3.
The abovementioned framing matt 3 is constructed with a frame board 10 having a substantially identical area with that ofthe abovementioned base board main body 5to constitute the paperboard 2 and being madeofhardboard slightlythinnerthanthebase board main body 5; a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer 11 applied on one surface ofthe frame board 10; a strip offilm 12 to be fixedly secured to the frame board 10 and extending from top to bottom on and along the binding side thereof; and window portions 13formed by punching appropriate portions ofthe frame board 10 in an appropriate shape.Giving a preferred example, the above mentioned frame board 10 is constructed with a paper material of a thickness approximately half that of the base board main body 5, that is, when its folding into two is dispensed with; more concretely, the practical thickness oftheframe board lOis in a range offrom approximately 0.2 to 1.0 mm or so, or optimumly approximately 0.5 mm or so.
For the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer 11 to be applied on one surface side of the frame board 10 constituting the front surface side, there may be used, for example, an emulsion-type pressure-sensitive adhesive agent ,n wetcondition. Such pressure sensitive adhesive agent should preferably be applied on the surface ofthe frame board in oblique stripes.
The formation ofthe pressure-sensitive adhesive layer in such oblique stripes is disclosed in Japanese utility model publication No.47-35868 of the same inventor as in the present application. From the standpoint of manufacturing, it is advantageous that the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer 11 may use the identical pressure-sensitive adhesive agent with that 6 to be coated on the base board main body 5.
Further, the abovementioned window portions 13 are formed in a desired shape by punching arbitrary locations on the base board main body 5 where the photographic pictures, etc. come into view. For instance, such picture emerging windows may be formed in a plurality of numbers in a weil-arranged circular, orothershape, each of such windows being in sTze somewhat smallerthatthe size of photographs, etc. 15 to provide a hold-down margin, as illustrated.
The framing matts 3,3 are bound in such a manner thatthey may be opened wide to both surfaces of the base board main body 5 constituting the paperboard 2. The transparent film 7 covers over the pressuresensitive adhesive layer 11 on the framing matts 3,3 and the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer 6 on the base board main body 5 ofthe photo-mounting paperboard, which appears externallythrough the punched window portions 13. The sticking and peeling edge7aofthetransparentfilm7isoverlapped on thetop surface ofthe abovementioned film strip 12 fixedly secured from top to bottom on and along the binding side oftheframe board 10. By the way, the other side surface ofthe framing matt 3 constitutes a region 14where no pressure-sensitive adhesive layer is applied.
In the actual use ofthe abovementioned album 1, the transparentfilm 7 is peeled offfrom the sticking and peeling edge 7a thereof overlappingly placed on the top surface ofthefilm strip 12, followed by bringing the framing matt3 into a state of its being separated from the base board main body 5 constitut ing the paperboard 2. Afterthis, the photographs 15, 15 are arranged on the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer 6 on the base board main body 5 constituting the paperboard 2 at positions corresponding to the punched window portions 13,13, and then the framing matt 3 is laid overthe base board main body 5 with the photographs 15 placed thereon, which is then covered with thetransparentfilm 7.
According to the above-described construction, the photographs can be easily pressed down onto the paperboard 2 by rigidity of the framing matts 3,3 bound with the paperboard on both surfaces thereof.
As the result ofthis, undesirable displacement, etc. of the photographs, which have so encountered when the soft and pliable transparent film 7 is placed thereon, can be eiiminated. Moreover, by the non adhesive region 14 on the other surface side ofthe framing matt 3,3, the photographs 15 can be readiiy positioned with accuracy at the punched window portions 13,13, and, moreover, the non-adhesive region 14 larger than the size ofthe photograph 15 comes into adhesion with the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer 6 of the base board main body 5 constituting the paperboard, the photographs can be kept at their positions without any displacement whatsoever. Further, sincethe framing matt3 is constructed in such a mannerthat it may not be folded as in the base board main body 5, hence its thickness is half that ofthe base board main body, there accrues such advantagethatthe manufacturing step ofthe frame board lOcan be utilized, as it is, forits manufacture with the only addition to it ofthe punching step.
Figures 3 and 4 are the perspective views showing another embodiment ofthe album and its framing matt according to the present invention. It should be noted that, in the drawing, the same reference numerals designate the identical or equivalent parts, and their repeated explanations will be dispensed with.
In this second embodiment ofthe present invention, the framing matt 20 remains to be a single, separate leaf without its being bound in the album 1. This framing matt 20 has punched window portions 21,22 formed therein in conformity with sizes of photographs. Depending on necessity or desire, the punched window portion 21 has a boarder pattern 23 along its periphery. Each ofthe punched window portions 21,22 have different distances Ii and 12 from their left and right ends, respectively. Also, as shown in Figure 4, a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer 24 is provided on the other surface side oftheframing matt 10.
According to the abovementioned second embodiment ofthe present invention, not only the decorative effect can be produced by the bordered pattern 23, but also the framing matt 20 can be inserted into any page ofthe album 1 where such insertion is required, whereby arrangement of the photographs can be freely selected, which is other advantage of the present invention. In this case, when the framing matt 20 having different position and shape ofthe punched window portions 21,22 is provided in accordance with the size of photographs, various arrangement of such photographs becomes possible.
Moreover, as shown in Figure 4, even when the framing matt 20 is turned the other side up, the transparentfilm 7 can be adhered onto the pressuresensitive adhesive layer 24. As the result ofthis, the photograph setting positions can be varied bydif- ferentiating the distances 11 and 12 with respectto both left and right directions, respectively.
Figu re 5 is a perspective view showing still another embodiment ofthe framing matt according to the present invention. In this embodiment, the framing matt30 is made up of a frame board 31, a marginal strip 32 for binding which is arranged substantially in parallel with the frame board 31 along the binding side thereofthroughout its length from top to bottom at a certain space interval therebetween, and a connecting strip 33 spanning to connect both frame board 31 and binding marginal strip 32. Atransparent film 34 with punched window portions therein is layed on the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer 11 applied on one surface side of the frame board 31.In more detail, the binding marginal strip 32 assumes a thin, long shape extending from top to bottom ofthe frame board 31 with a thickness substantially equal to that of the frame board 31, and has perforations 36 formed at predetermined positions for allowing stopper metals to pass therethrough. As the connecting material 33, there may be used, for example, a film web to be fixediy sebureci to one side ofthe binding marginal strip 32 and the binding side ofthe frame board 31. At this binding side of the frame bosrd, there is provided a film web 35 to be opposed to the lower surface ofthe sticking and peeling edge 7a of the transparent film 7.
Forthe connecting film, there may be used the same material as that ofthefilm 34 with punched window portions andthetransparentfilm 7 ofthe album 1,for the advantage in the manufacturing.
In the same manner, the framing matt3O is disposed in accordance with necessity on one surface or both of the base board main body connected by the connecting film web in a manner to be able to be opened wide, and then it is bound by insertion ofthe stopper metals through the perforations formed in the binding marginal strip32.Atthatinstant,whentheframing matt30 is to be placed on the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer 6 of the base board main body5,the transparentfilm 7 is placed over the pressuresensitive adhesive layer 11 of the framing matt30.
According to the above-described embodiment of the present invention, it becomes possible that the frame board 30 per se having the window-punched transparentfilm 34 attached onto the same is made an independent selling item as is the case with the paperboard 2. In its use, the framing matt 30 can be appropriately combined with a desired surface of the photo-mounting paperboard 2, at which time the transparentfilm 34 with the punched windows can be peeled offfrom the paperboard and discarded. This signifiesthattheframing mattcan be manufactured in the course of the paperboard manufacturing step, by simply adding thereto the punching step, which is highly meritorious in the manufacture ofthe paperboard for album.
Furthermore, so far as the framing matt 3,20, and 30 has the pressure-sensitive adhesive agent on at least one surface side thereof, there can be effected arbitrary selection in the provision or non-provision of the binding margin, the shape of the punched windows, the manner of applying the adhesive agent, and so forth. In addition, theframing matt3, 20, and 30 can be made of a thin plastic film, in which case the base board main body can also be made of the same material as selected accordingly, hence it becomes possible to achieve much better preserving effect of the photographs on the paperboard. It goes without saying that combination can be made between the plasticandthe hardboardfortheframing matt and the paperboard, in which case the pressure-sensitive adhesive agent is also selected in accordance with combination ofthe material.
In theforegoig, the present invention has been described with reference to the preferred embodiments; it should however be notedthatthese embodiments are merely illustrative and not so restrictive, and that any changes and modifications may be made thereto by those persons skilled in the art within the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
