Abstract

215,265. Jerrard, E. P. Feb. 6, 1923. Vapour engines.-In apparatus for the utilazation of heat for the production of motive power and electrical energy, wherein a number of prime movers are included in separate closed circuits provided with heat-exchanging devices in which the fluid for driving one prime mover is heated by the exhaust from the preceding prime mover and wherein each prime mover is adapted to drive its corresponding pump for effecting the circulation of the fluid in the closed' circuit, the prime movers are adapted to drive electric generators which are utilized for passing a current through closed electric circuits including thermopiles which are so placed as to evolve heat in and absorb heat from the closed vapour circuits of the power units. The original source of heat in the system may be live or exhaust steam or hot gases from an internal combustion engine. In refrigerating and liquid'-air making machines the heat, contained in fluid used for cooling circulated by a pump 101, is extracted in a heat exchanger 102, further cooling being effected by the junctions of thermopiles in devices 103, 104 supplied with current from generators 113 driven by fluid engines 105, 107, 109 with combined pumps each in a separate fluid circuit passing through the heat exchangers 102, 106, 108. Thermo-electric heaters 110 are also inserted at various points in the circuits. Specifications 24001/10, [Class 69 (iii). Sprayproducers &c.]; 11002/11 and 22905/12, [both m Class 69 (ii), Hydraulic presses &c.]; and 10260/13, [Class 7 (v), Internal-combustion engines, Starting &c.] are referred to.
