Abstract

A baby's high chair which can be readily disassembled and packaged flat for convenience of transport, e.g. in a suitcase, is constructed of a pair of generally flat leg members (1, 2) assembled together at right angles by interfitting slots (1b, 2b), upstanding portions (1d 2d) of the upper ends of the assembled leg members forming an upstanding cross-shaped projection which fits in and locates with a complementary cross-shaped recess in the underside of a platform (3) which rests horizontally on the leg members and on which rests a seat structure comprising a circular seat (4) and an annular back and arm rest (5) assembled to the seat by bars (6) of which the lower and upper ends fit into blind holes (4a) in the seat (4) and the back and arm rest (5), a single screw or bolt (6) passing through holes (4b, 3b) in the seat (4) and platform (3) and securing them to the leg assembly (1, 2). <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Baby's high chair The present invention relates to a baby's high chair which is of simple construction and can be readily disassembled for convenience of transport, even to the extent of being packaged flat for transport in a suitcase, and which is thus also capable of being marketted in the form of a flat knock-down kit for simple D.l.Y. assembly.
The chair according to the invention comprises a pair of generally flat leg members which are assembled together, crossing each other at right angles, by means of interfitting slots, the lower ends of the assembled leg members constituting feet and the upper ends thereof forming or being provided with upstanding elements, a platform conveniently of circular shape, having on its under-surface a recess or recesses complementary to said upstanding elements and extending at least partway through the thickness of the platform, said platform engaging and locating with said upstanding elements and being supported by the legs in a horizontal position, and a seat structure comprising back and arm rests on said platform.
Conveniently the seat structure comprises a preferably circular seat and an annular or partannular back and arm rest assembled to the seat by a plurality of upright bars of which the lower and upper ends fit into blind holes in the seat and arm rest respectively, the seat resting on the platform, and a screw, bolt or the equivalent passing through central holes in the seat and platform and securing them to the leg assembly.
An embodiment according to the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is an exploded perspective view of the components of the chair, Figure 2 is a perspective view of the underside of the platform, and Figure 3 is a side view of the assembled chair.
Referring to the drawings, the chair comprises two leg members 1 and 2 each having a pair of feet 1 a, 2a. The leg members are flat and may be cut from timber or moulded from plastics material. They are assembled together at right angles by the slots 1 b, 2b which interfit with the unslotted sections 2c, 1 C of the other leg member respectively.
The upper ends of the leg members are provided with upstanding elements 1 d, 2d which, when the leg members are assembled together, form an upstanding member which is cross-shaped in plan.
A circular flat platform 3 having at its underface a cross-shaped recess 3a which is complementary to the upstanding crossshaped member 1 d, 2d rests on the top of the leg members with the recess 3a engaging with and locating on the members 1 d, 2d, thereby preventing rotation of the platform 3 on the leg members.
Resting on the platform 3 is the seat 4 of a seat structure comprising the seat 4 and an arm rest 5 which are assembled together by a plurality of upright bars of which the lower ends fit tightly into holes 4a in the seat 4 and the upper ends fit tightly into holes (not shown) in the underside of the arm rest 5.
The seat structure and platform are secured to the leg assembly by a single screw or bolt 6 which passes through central holes 4b, 3b in the seat 4 and platform 3 and is screwed into the top of the leg assembly. If the screw 6 is tightened rotation of the seat structure on the leg assembly can be prevented. By loosening the screw the seat structure can be turned freely.
The front portion 5a of the arm rest may be shaped as desired, for example to form or receive a table surface, or to receive a beaker or other utensil or toy.
As described, the leg member 1 would not be secured by the single screw 6 and reliance is placed on the friction between the leg members to hold them assembled. However it can be arranged for the screw or bolt to extend from the leg member 1, possibly through a hole or recess in the unslotted portion 2c of the leg member 2.
The components of the chair may be made from any suitable materials.
The chair components can be marketted in a flat package for home assembly. It can also be readily disassembled for storage or transport as a flat package or in a suitcase.
Whilst a particular embodiment has been described, it will be understood that modifications can be made without departing from the scope of the invention: For example, castors may be fitted to the bottoms of the feet 1 a,2a: These facilitate movement of the assembled chair and also serve as a safety feature in that, if a baby or child sitting in the seat pushes against a table or other object, the chair will move on its feet rather than tip.

A baby's chair comprising a pair of generally flat leg members which are assembled together, crossing each other at right angles, by means of interfitting slots, the lower ends of the assembled leg members constituting feet and the upper ends thereof forming or being provided with upstanding elements, a platform conveniently of circular shape, having on its under-surface a recess or recesses complementary to said upstanding elements and extending at least part-way through the thickness of the platform, said platform engaging and locating with said upstanding elements and being supported by the
